GdS: Same system, three new signings – Milan’s ‘hypothetical’ line-up for 2026-27

If AC Milan get back into the Champions League as they are currently on course to do, then an ambitious summer must follow.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport speaks of having a possible budget of €100m (we presume net spend) when factoring in loan players being bought and Champions League money, without considering sales of those currently in the squad.

The target from there is simple: to sign one quality player for each outfield department that can slot straight into the team and improve it, before then thinking about bolstering the depth available to Massimiliano Allegri.

The paper believe that Kim Min-jae of Bayern Munich is a difficult but not impossible target to come in and fill the middle centre-back role, flanked by Koni De Winter and Strahinja Pavlovic.

In midfield, Leon Goretzka is down as the new regista with Luka Modric and Adrien Rabiot either side of him. Our eyebrows are raised by the suggestion of Christian Pulisic at right wing-back, however. That is likely so that La Gazzetta could include Moise Kean in the new front two alongside Rafael Leao.

Possible 2026-27 AC Milan XI (3-5-2): Maignan; De Winter, Kim, Pavlovic; Pulisic, Modric, Goretzka, Rabiot, Barteasghi; Kean, Leao.

  1. Pulisic can’t defend. He will just be one of the two up front. We need to really start to imagine life without Leao. He is the most unfit of all the attackers and he also does not fit in the system.

      1. I have no intention to convince Allegri as he gets paid by Milan not by me lol. The stupid thing is the idea of putting Pulisic in the RWB position. I think we all agree how stupid this looks. Kean, Gimenez, Pulisic, and Nkunku are meant for a two-striker setup while Leao is absolutely not and we have the whole season this year to confirm that. If you say so then we can let Allegri start Leao 500 times in a 3-5-2 and he will still look underwhelming every single time. Plus he is not physically fit.

    1. That is a bit delusional to be honest. 20m is nothing in this market. Kean is a quality striker, and he definitely proved that the last couple of years.

      Allegri knows him well too.

He will cost at least 40m

  2. LMAO!!! Goretzka…. right on. Don’t stop there GDS, let’s bring in Camavinga and Trent Alexander Arnold in, maybe Haaland for the 9. VanDijk as another CB and maybe Maldini wants to come out of retirement and play again …

      1. I live on a planet where Milan would NEVER spend 7mil/season on Goretzka after a 10mil sign on bonus or however the f__k much his agent will ask for.

What about you? Different planet? Where this is possible? Distant Utopia maybe?

  3. No to Kim. Guy had 1 good season at Napoli and since he has been either bad or injured.
Yes to Goretzka but absolutely not as a regista.
    Yes to kean.
Allegri first needs to figure out what system he is going to play before they start signing players. If they continue playing 352 it will be more important who they sell before thinking about buying, especially the forwards.
Somebody that works at GdS have Pulisic playing as a wingback.

  4. Lol this is a pretty bad take. Pulisic as wingback is outrageous. Chelsea did that and he left then had his best run of form as a winger/striker with Milan. Allegri knows better. Maybe a free role for pulisic but most likely a 433 if they bring in Keane and keep leao. Otherwise it’s leao or pulisic out and continuing with the 352. Not playing salad in his best position and as a result playing pulisic in his worst is the type of decisions teams in emergency mode make not teams fighting for titles, come on.

    1. So wait until the season is finished to start planning for next season?
Thats how you lose players you are interested in. Winning teams plan ahead.

  5. This would be worse than the current squad. Pulisic as a wingback is idiotic while keeping Leao in a front 2 where he is not good either doesn’t work.
If Allegri is going to insist on a front 2 then we should sell Leao and bring a proper striker. Leao not playing as LW is a waste. And neither Pulisic nor Leao will be happy coming off the bench.

  6. If we get Kean hopefully his rapport with Leao on the pitch is as good as it is off it… Guirassy’s another good choice up front but I have no idea why we didn’t go for him a couple of seasons ago…

  7. This is why Pulisic will leave. He’s not a defender. He’s also not willing to be a super sub. I’m not sure why people don’t see this. Salemaeker will be the right wing back.

  8. Milan Skriniar, Goretzka and Guirassy would raise the level of this current team. Not sold on Kim and Kean. Average players who won’t raise the level of the team in terms of quality.

Pulisic played RWB during the preseason against Liverpool and the Coppa Italia and he was really good. It can work.

    1. Saelemaekers played vs Liverpool in the pre season game and vs Bari in Copa Italia. So if Saelemaekers, the RWB played in that game, does that mean that he and Pulisic played in the same position 🤔, or you just don’t know what you are talking about?
Pulisic has never played as a wingback at Milan.

  9. Pulisic replacing Saelemakers as a wing-back in an Allegri lineup is one of the wildest supposedly serious concepts I’ve seen GDS produce lately. 😂 I mean, if that was in any way an actual plan, pretty sure we would have already seen it, since it doesn’t concern potential arrivals. We played a few games without injured Alexis and there were times when Puli was benched for another striker, but none of that equaled the aforementioned idea.

I get it, it’s the clickbait era, but Allegri’s preferences are pretty simple and what was missing this season most of all, is a CF. He actually requested Vlahovic, it wasn’t purely newspaper hypotheticals. He proved he can work with these defenders (best defense in Europe with four mid-level CBs is pretty impressive), and I’m sure he will manage without Goretzka (especially if Modric agrees to extend for an year, albeit with limited game time), but you can be sure as hell he will demand a striker. My guess is that we will have to sell Leao or Pulisic and I’m pretty worried as to what the idiots from RedBird will opt for, since no one will pay big money for Rafa these days, but one hopes for the best nonetheless.

    1. Pulisic will bring a good profit considering what they bought him for and then pro-rating that price. I continue to believe that Pulisic will want to leave as he sees the writing on the wall as to his playing time and not willing to be a backup to Leao. Leao will never be sold as he was on the scudetto winning team and he is an Allegri-type player. I admit to repeating myself as I believed this was the outcome that was going to happen as soon as they hired Allegri.

  10. That’s rubbish. Change formation & play your players in their natural positions. Stop being scared. Play football, possession football. Have fun, enjoy, entertain.

With this, is better Allegri should please go.
