MN: Milan to discuss Ibrahimovic and Brahim Diaz dilemmas in the coming months

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will make reflections on how the attacking department should look going into the 2022-23 season in the coming months, a report claims.

MilanNews writes that talks will be held in the spring with Zlatan Ibrahimovic to understand if the Swede wants to renew his contract given that he will be 41 years old in October. It must be considered whether Milan would still have room for a big striker signing if Ibra were to renew, which is why the club and the player will sit down to discuss the future.

The ideal vision in Milan’s mind would be to keep Ibrahimovic but no longer as the first choice and starting centre-forward, not only because of age-related injuries but because he serves better now as a man of experience to come off the bench, but it remains to be seen whether he will accept that.

Then, the plans for the attacking midfielder role will also be reviewed because only Brahim Diaz is not enough in such a crucial position. Yacine Adli will arrive from Bordeaux in the summer once his loan is done, it must be noted.

  1. I don’t think we need Giroud. He is worse than Ibra while being so much younger. Ibrahimović, Belotti and the young player that just came in sound way better. Belotti would play most of the matches, Ibrahimović would be fit for 20-30 matches in total, so not even 50% when you include CL and Coppa Italia and another young striker would have enough minutes to develop. And Diaz is a good substitute, we need to buy an AMC for next season and paying 20M+ for Diaz doesn’t look like a reasonable decision. He has a 2 year loan so we can have quality backup for free and probably move on.

  2. And when I said Ibra should only be considered as a substitute and play last 20 to 30 minutes, I was crucified by Ibra zealots.

Sad fact is we started this season with 2 subs and one injured player. Neother Ibra nor Giroud should have been considered as starters. Especially after the knee operation Ibra had in June. Giroud was already a sub in Chelsea, not sure what we expected there to happen. Pellegri was simply flop, fine those things happen. But we missed the opportunity to sing a proper striker during the summer mercato, and here is another winter mercato and we are once again not going into 2nd part of the season with 2 subs and one striker in its infancy that only played semi-professional Serbian league (Italian Serie C is more professional).

We’re back at relying on Rebic, Leao and Theo to score and they all play on the same f*cking side. Far from ideal.

  3. Give ibra a statue at the new stadium and don’t entertain a renewal. If he wants to show love for the club he should step aside or accept a coaching role with the strikers. We cannot depend on him anymore. He’s boxys given up but his mind hasn’t yet. Resigning a 40 year old is not a job well done. You don’t get a pat on the back for that. You get a pat on the back for getting circa 150m from the sale of those 2 clowns last season and Kessie. That’s called management

  4. test the waters with him, Belotti is what I see as our only option at this point. Ibra does have value in the sense that his reputation does draw defensive attention. He is as mentioned falling apart so real limited time….as to when to play him, first 30 minutes or more at the begining and one game a week. One reason he does look so bad is we have no other threats other than Leao and Rebic, Theo considering he is at the opposite end of the pitch is more of an offensive threat than anyone other than Ibra and Leao.

    1. Ibra benefits more by playing the last 30 minutes because defenders will be exhausted while he enters the field fresh.
Current Ibra starting the game can not match the speed of play in the opening minutes. Milan need to deploy him at the end, so he can take advantage.
Look at Goran Pandev of Genoa, or Fabio Quagliarella at Samp & how their minutes are managed for the 2nd half attacking push. Even Luis Muriel of Atalanta, plays super sub when Duvan Zapata is healthy.

  5. Zlatan should really take the position as super sub after this his body is simply not holding up for full 90 mins games in row.

We need a quality fresh striker, Jovic could be a good option or even Belotti as mentioned.

Giroud is also not enough even Zlatan is still better than him for sure.

We also need a proper 10 er, Brahim Díaz isn’t enough to be our main 10 er.
