CM: Idea of signing Man Utd outcast gains momentum as Maldini ponders move – the situation

Every couple of days it seems as though a new target is on pole to be AC Milan’s centre-back signing this month, and now the man in question is Eric Bailly.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan tried to break down Lille’s wall for Sven Botman and made an attempt for Paris Saint-Germain’s Abdou Diallo, but now Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are making their assessments on Bailly who is a profile they have followed for years.

The 27-year-old Ivorian is under contract until June 2024 (with an option until 2025) with United, who signed him from Villarreal in 2016. He is currently at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon with the Ivory Coast and Franck Kessie, where it will be nice to feel important given he has played just 487 minutes across all competitions for United this season.

Milan have not fully committed to closing a deal for Bailly yet but new talks with the Red Devils are expected this week, with the aim of agreeing a loan with option to buy. Maldini and Massara are convinced that Bailly could have the right strengths to to partner the centre-backs already at the club, while he earns €2.8m net per season which is within reach.
