History could be repeating itself for AC Milan half a decade after they last changed goalkeepers, with a target already in mind.
Tuttosport write this morning that the players change, the times change, but the story remains the same. Almost five years ago, Milan began the season with their first-choice goalkeeper’s contract expiring.

That man was Gianluigi Donnarumma, and he would end up leaving to be replaced by Mike Maignan. Now, things seem to be following a familiar pattern as the Frenchman is in his final year, with no sign of a renewal.
No.1 or no-one to change?
The paper adds that weeks ago, it was believed that once the mercato closed it would be the right time to renegotiate the contract renewal with Maignan. The situation has changed again, and it seems he is headed for a free transfer at the end of the season.
The feelings about Maignan are more negative than positive, but anything can happen. With the season already underway and his contract expiring in June 2026, there’s very little time to reach an agreement with the player’s entourage.
Maignan will also be highly sought-after by teams looking for a new goalkeeper for next season. In February, the parties reached an agreement for a three-year extension worth €5m net per year, but this was then put on ice by the club, which angered the player.
Who could replace him? Lorenzo Torriani is a name to monitor. The club have a lot of faith in him and last year he made his first competitive appearances, so the 20-year-old could be promoted to being the new number one.
While Torriani’s candidacy is growing, Zion Suzuki’s remains on the radar. The Japan international is making a name for himself in Parma and Milan could move early to try and beat the competition, especially if Maignan’s exit becomes a near certainty.
Torriani is 20 years old. He’s not a 17 year old kid. It’s time this club and this management fulfill their promise and target and shows some faith in their youth and not just sell them off at first opportunity.

I don’t know any player that will be happy with such treatment. Sometimes, management need to be very pricely in their decisions.
In case of his disposal, Mike: Torriani should be given opportunity to develop and I pray may he not turn to be Donna.

Better still, integrate torriani now (whether Mike is leaving or no) let him learn from him so by the end he’d be ready to take over or be a befitting backup choice…
From what I’ve seen of Suzuki he’s not that great. Careless at times. Toriani is better and free. Parma would probably want 40 million for him after the leoni saga. Maybe we sign a more proven veteran goalkeeper as torianis back up. Someone like de gea standards. A past winner at clubs.
Why not give Mike a new contract worth 5m as agreed, promote Torriani and sell Mike for like 60-70m when Torriani is ready to take over
unless you only play video games you will know no clubs will offer more than 25 million for maignan renewal or not.
Because why would Mike agree to that? He can hit the market next summer, make a 5-10M signing fee and a higher wage somewhere.
Why spend no money on a keeper when you can spend 20m and maybe get a few mil in capital gains?
The money goes back on transfers so why are you complaining?

Give Mike same contract with a 2mill signing bonus for the stupidity management exhibited after previous negotiations.
If he doesn’t sign nobody can blame him cus the move of management is a foolish rookie move, and when January comes and no sign of renewal, promote Torriani to keep some matches to prepare him to takeover between the sticks.

Renew Mike for 2 season with promise to sell him after a year for a considerable price so Torriani has added year where they will both have 50/50 playing time
