“Milan’s identity has been destroyed” – Vitiello hammers Cardinale and co. in strong editorial

Journalist and columnist Antonio Vitiello has claimed that the current ownership have destroyed AC Milan’s identity.

It was announced 15 days ago after the defeat to Cagliari condemned Milan to another season without Champions League football that Massimiliano Allegri, Igli Tare, Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada had all been dismissed from their roles.

The issue is that over a fortnight on none of these positions have been filled. Ralf Rangnick and Oliver Glasner look like being the first two pieces but things are progressing slowly, and as such some of the star players have understandably begun to question their place.

Vitiello published a column for MilanNews titled: ‘Milan’s identity has been destroyed. Transfer market urgency: a dramatic delay. Glasner and Rangnick: the reasons.’ As the headline suggests, he takes aim at RedBird Capital.

“Gerry Cardinale, just like those on the fourth floor of Casa Milan, simply can’t understand that AC Milan fans don’t feel represented by this ownership and the club’s actions. There’s a total rejection of everything being done and proposed, because it goes against the historic values ​​of the Rossoneri club.

“The primary problem isn’t even the sporting results, which haven’t arrived since Gerry Cardinale took over the club, despite being a key factor in the protests. The real problem is that AC Milan’s identity has been completely lost.

“No one recognises themselves in this club anymore, in the values ​​it espouses and its projects (so far unsuccessful), but also in its methods, which don’t conform to a historic and prestigious club. A club filled with figures from backgrounds other than football, increasingly distant from the fans, who don’t know how to relate to the Rossoneri world.

“A complete break with the glorious past is never a good thing, and it’s clear there’s no respect for Milan’s history. They still haven’t figured it out, or they don’t care to figure it out. Perhaps the second option is more likely at this point.

“In this context of daily fan protests, widespread desperation, and a lack of trust in Cardinale, Ibra, and his clique, there’s one issue we’d like to highlight in this editorial: the significant delay in the transfer market.

“As of June 9th, with the World Cup just around the corner, the players still don’t know who to talk to about next season. There are several situations that need to be resolved as soon as possible, with agents eager to figure out whether to find a team for their clients or sit down to discuss their future at Milan. The club has been on hold for a fortnight, something rarely seen in football at this level.”
