Di Marzio: Milan in talks over RB Salzburg midfielder after Loftus-Cheek injury – the latest

AC Milan are looking to strengthen the midfield this month and an old target has resurfaced as an option: Lucas Gourna-Douath of Red Bull Salzburg.

Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting that Milan are in negotiations over Gourna-Douath, a 21-year-old midfielder who plays in the Austrian Bundesliga. A striker is not the only objective before the window closes with Conceicao hoping to get midfield reinforcements too.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s injury certainly also had an impact on the decision to push forward and begin talks over the Frenchman. In fact, the management had made an attempt for Philip Billing just moments before the Danish player headed to join Napoli.

It was an attempt that failed but which gave a clear indication of the need to strengthen the department and so they have turned to Gourna-Douath, who is also liked by other Serie A clubs. He has made 11 league and five Champions League appearances this season.

According to Calciomercato.com, Gourna-Douath is ‘an old obsession that is back in fashion at Milan’. He joins Warren Bondo of Monza and Morten Frendrup of Genoa on the list of January targets, with Samuele Ricci more a name for the summer.

No price tag is mentioned, but it will be interesting to see if talks accelerate between the clubs. The relations should be good after the Noah Okafor deal was closed in the 2023 summer transfer window, plus the Strahinja Pavlovic operation last summer.

  1. Never heard of him but apparently he is the most expensive australian league transfer at 15m. Would take a higher fee for them to sell. Given we dont spend big not sure why we are looking at him. Torino wont sell Ricci until summer. Play Bennacer and start to bood in Zeroli and Vos instead of signing randoms. Wildcard signing could be Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini who wants out. That’s a quality italian worth signing but he does earn 6m.

Interestingly moncada has a reverse midas touch. Every player we’ve loaned out or sold is doing better ie CDK, Salamaekers, Pobega, Adli.

    1. Haha not sure but for every Tijani & pulisic his had 10 shockers. I know musah is playing better under conceicao but him, okafor & chukaweze havent been good signings either. Chukaweze has done better this year and was unlucky to get injured but for me theyre not milan material. Musah was signed for USA market to increase revenue.

  2. Friendly reminder that the last player we got from the Austrian league and specifically from RB Salzburg was Strahinja Pavlović.

  3. Milan management is the most confused lot in the whole serie A. We all know that milan need very badly a good striker who can score 15/20 goals every year – instead we chase dani olmo (ha ha), walker (ha ha), ricci, friedrup, bondo …… what a mess!!!!

Same thing with new stadium …. upgrade san siro alone, then with inter, then san donato, then new stadium in san siro area on our own, then with inter, then buy old san siro …..

    People with no brain.
    People with no mind.
    People with no sense.
    People with no plans.
    People with no vision.

People who excel in only one thing – making fools of themselves … and fukcing milan all the way.
