MN: Tally in 2024-25 almost matched – Milan’s injury record worrying despite no Europe

A report has provided a comparison between AC Milan’s injury situation this season and that of last season, with some worrying findings.

With Milan not in European competitions this season it was hoped that the injury count would decline given the lower volume of games. However, the management made the decision to trim the squad to 19 outfield players (which became 20 with Niclas Füllkrug in January).

So, the trade-off of having less games was met by having less players, thus re-increasing the potential workload for the members of the squad. MilanNews have counted up the injuries in the current campaign compared to those in 2024-25.

2025-26 injuries

1. Pulisic – Ankle sprain – July 26 to August 12, 17 days out during the summer
2. Leao – Right calf elongational injury – August 17 to September 25, 39 days out and missed 5 games
3. Jashari – Compound fracture of the right fibula – August 28 to October 30, 63 days out. 9 games missed so far
4. Pavlovic – Flexor problem – from September 14 to September 18, 4 days out
5. Maignan – Right calf problem – from September 14 to September 23, 9 days out and 1 game missed
6. Tomori – Right aductor strain – from September 28 to October 3, 5 days out

8. Estupinan – Ankle problem – from October 11 to October 30, 19 days out and 3 games missed
9. Pulisic – Right thigh hamstring injury – from October 11 to November 5, 25 days out and 4 games missed
10. Rabiot – Left soleus injury – from October 16 to November 18, 33 days out and 5 games missed

In total, 14 traumatic injuries, 16 muscular, and one flu-related. Pulisic, Rabiot, Estupinan and Athekame suffered the longest lay-offs during international duty. Leao’s problems continued due to adductor inflammation, which later developed into pubalgia.

Gimenez has recovered from the long layoff caused by ankle surgery: he was out for practically half the season. Loftus-Cheek was very unlucky in a collision with the Parma goalkeeper, resulting in a fractured jaw. Gabbia’s injury was also significant, requiring surgery.

Finally, Modric: the Croatian suffered a fractured cheekbone in a collision with Locatelli during Milan-Juve. The midfielder finished the season with Milan and will miss the next four games. He should instead be fit for the World Cup with Croatia.

Last season there were eight traumatic injuries, 22 muscular injuries and two flu-related injuries. The biggest ones were Emerson Royal’s high-grade muscle issue, Loftus-Cheek’s hamstring problem, plus long-term spells out for Florenzi, Sportiello and Jovic.

The worrying thing is that there were only two more injuries last season and there are four games left for that to perhaps be overtaken, all in a season without any deep cup or European runs. Thus, the importance of increasing the depth of the squad is crystal clear, to avoid any crises.

    1. That’s not true at all. They had several injured players starting with Dumfries who is a crucial element! How could you forget that guy? Let’s
be serious. He missed 25 games this season…
