CorSport: Milan ‘intend to sell a few’ – how Bologna could unlock a move for Gimenez

Santiago Gimenez’s move to AC Milan is a very real possibility in the January mercato, but it may be reliant on departures. So Bologna’s interest is very much welcomed.

Milan are determined to add to their front line in January, and despite an injection of money awaiting them after potentially after the game against Dinamo Zagreb, there is a need to add more funds to the kitty.

This is why the outgoing mercato will be vital, and today, there has been contact from Bologna for two of the Rossoneri’s out-of-favour forwards.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Milan Press), the Rossoblu have approached the Diavolo asking for information about Noah Okafor and Samuel Chukwueze – who is due to be available at the weekend.

Bologna ‘intend’ to try for one of the two wingers, and it seems that a move for the latter may be more likely at this stage after the side lost their star right winger – Riccardo Orsolini – to injury.

The report suggests that a dry loan is the consideration currently, rather than a purchase or even a loan with a buy clause. Whilst the Rossoneri ‘intend to sell a few’ to aid the purchase of Gimenez, it would temporarily lower the wage bill, which would be of assistance to Milan, definitely.

  1. Without the potential €10-12mn for Emerson we’re having to find creative ways to afford the Gimenez funds.

My question is, I’m only reading about his potential move on Milan-favored websites. Does anyone know if he has a release clause, or what Feyenoord would accept, is his contract expiring in 2 years or something? €30-35mn seems pretty low for a decent striker in this day and age, especially in Jan window which is notoriously difficult to haggle

      1. That’s kinda the same thing though, either way we need to find some sales to afford a purchase. Management is likely uncomfortable spending the kind of money required for a good striker, otherwise we could have targeted say Osimhen for 50mn+ but that’s not gonna happen.

I’m just concerned we will try to close a last minute deal at 30mn and Feyenoord will laugh on feb 3rd saying it was never below €40mn. At which point we end up with no striker.

        1. I can see that happening. Management’s going to play on the fact Gimenez wants Milan like they did with Fofana… dragging everything out till the last minute until we’re all bald like Pioli with worry..

      2. Easily? No we can’t. Stop LYING. There was a €4.6 million profit last year. You can criticise the board for being incompetent, but to say they’re cheap is a complete and utter lie, that weasels like you have been repeating for 18 months. Get behind them or STFU complaining all the time. Are they trying to address the issues? Of course they are.

        1. Clubs participating in UEFA competitions can have a squad cost equal to, at most, 70% of revenues. Milan are well below that limit, with a cost of around €240m and revenues of about €450m. It is even permitted for Milan to make a €60m loss. Also, this ownership spent 40 millions net each summer on new acquisitions.

          Get your facts right🤡

Also, no we don’t need to get behind ownership to support the club. Many of us are here for more than 20 years supporting this club.

          1. The facts are the profit was €4.6 million because in addition to revenue, clubs also have expenses, which you somehow failed to mention. Your net figure is a complete lie and, as I have showed time and time again, all clubs also take in revenue from transfers. The richest club on Earth, Newcastle:

            NUFC 23-24
            €148 in
            €44 out

            NUFC 24-25
            €68 in
            €76 out

            Total Out: €216 million
            Total In: €120 million
            Net Spend: €96 million

About the same as ours, so what’s your point? You don’t have a point.

20 years? CHILD. Try 37. You’re over 20 years old and don’t understand that the owners, who are totally new to the sport, are 18 months into the job so obviously are going to make mistakes?

          2. You talk about profit as it’s the heart of the finances and so you showed you fail to understand basic concept of finances. It’s revenue you need to understand boy.

Milan spend about 31% of their revenue on squad wages (players plus coaching staff). 34% if we don’t include the capital gain in the revenue.

This is a very low figure for such a big club considering that the likes of Inter and Juventus spend about 47% and 54% on wages.

Amortisation costs of players: €89m for Inter, €146m for Juventus and €50.8m for Milan.

Adding all of the squad costs together – players, coaches, bonuses, amortisation and agent expenses – we arrive at €202m

Milan’s Settlement Agreement with UEFA stipulates that the maximum aggregate deficit can be €60m between 2022 and 2026.

Since they booked profit they are allowed to spend even more and can go up to €100m deficit if they like.

I hate to repeat myself but check your facts🤡

          3. And to add, you clown are contradicting your own logic. Screaming they cannot spend because they only had 4.6m profit but they spent 40 millions net each summer.

            Again🤡🤡🤡

        2. Most people dont understand how the FFP rules work. Its not a matter of how rich Redbird is. Its a matter of how high the club revenues are since they cant allocate total more then 70% of the revenues to player costs (wages, amortiztion of the transfer fee, agents commission and bonuses etc).

Milan was probably as close to 70% of the revenues in player costs as you can come at the start of the season judging how they had to count every euro in the summer.

If they want to bring in Jimenez on, say a 4 million/year deal, they most likely need to free up 4 million in wages per year by selling or loaning out other players. Then if they sign him for 40 mil on a 5 year deal, the amortization will be 8 mil a year, so thats a cost of 12 million a year (amortization 8 mil, wage 4 mil) that needs to be freed up by other means. If they havent calculated with reaching the playoff in CL in the budget that could be an extra income of which they can splash 70% of they money on a new player.

People also tend to forget that we were fined as late as 2022 for breaking the FFP rules.

Signing players in january, if you are close to that cap of 70% of total revenues in player costs, is a huge puzzle. You have to account for every cost for the player, then free up equal space in the budget. Doesnt matter if you have a rich owner.

    1. He won’t be 30-35M in winter, it’s not in Feyenoord’s interest to sell until summer, he’d be 50% more than that to buy this January.

He has no release fee and rumours in England connect him to Nottingham Forest and Tottenham too, though nothing concrete at all. Some of the English press have connected him to Milan too, so it’s not just Milan favoured sites, but they also imply it’s unlikely Milan can afford him now.

I think we’ve missed the window on this one.

  2. Even in the event that Bologna were to loan Chukwueze with an option to buy would they really be able to pay his salary as he earns 5.1 mil gross pr. year and as their highest paid player is in fact Orsolini who earns 3.7 mil gross pr. year. Personally I highly doubt it so unless its a dry loan to help the player out to get back up in gear this seems unfeasible to me and we most likely would still have to pay part of his salary while at loan.
Okafor on the other hand earns 2.5 gross pr. year so seems much more likely but I simply cant see them paying around 25 mil that apparently was our demands for Leipzig to buy him so unless it would be part of a swap deal then this deal also seems unlikely to happen.

  3. I doubt Bologna will actually pay for either of these screw-ups.

We’ll sign Gimenez for €35+5 and in the summer there will be a big clear out.

  4. Fabrizio Romano always has the right intel I’m waiting on him to let us know what Milan is planning to do I’m tired of speculation/rumours/unknown opinion #FACTS

  5. This kid @uberhulk is a complete idiot and likely works for Redbird – we have a moll! LOLOLO

Never have I heard a (alleged) fan on a forum defend the PROFIT MARGINS of an OWNER. It’s insane. Are you Gerry’s son or something?? You sound like a complete idiot, and yes you are a walking contradiction as @Ted pointed out above.

    What a donkey
