Reports: Milan intensify talks with Midtjylland over €7-10m deal – when it could unlock

By Oliver Fisher -

There are a number of reports suggesting that AC Milan are concretely trying to sign midfielder Raphael Onyedika of FC Midtjylland.

According to this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), Milan are still on the hunt for a new midfielder and the most frequent contacts at the moment for any target are with Raphael Onyedika, the 21-year-old Midtjylland midfielder. They add that the Nigerian could arrive for just under €10m.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) agree that Onyedika of Midttlyand is the name that is gathering the most steam as he perfectly reflects the profile that the Rossoneri are looking for, and they confirm that he has a valuation between €7-10m.

Meanwhile, our colleagues at SempreMilan.it are reporting that Onyedika – who is under contract until June 2026 – is valued by his club around €7m . The negotiation between the Rossoneri and the Danish club could be unlocked as early as tomorrow as this evening Midtjylland will know their European fate by playing the second leg of their Champions League qualifier against Benfica (first leg ended 4-1 for the Portuguese).

  1. Is this guy really worth 7-10? Not sure how much more value he could add say over Grillitsch who could join for free. I would rather spend this amount on getting Ziyech.

    1. They’re not really comparable values though.

Let’s say they both cost €10m purchase price.

Ziyech would cost another ~10m in salary, whereas this kid will be a fraction of that (guess ~1-2m). And that’s over multiple years, so it affects not just this season’s budget but also likely the next couple of years’.

Ziyech will have little to no resale value due to his age and higher salary, whereas Onyedika would potentially rise in value and would be very unlikely to lose value for the next 2-3 years barring disaster.

And that’s assuming the higher end of the scale for Onyedika’s fee. More likely it could be 10m but only if a lot of conditions are met with regards to Milan achievements (UCL qualification and progress) and personal targets (appearances for the first team).

So when they say “10m” it means completely different things.

  2. Having watched him recently when Midtjylland played Larnaca, I must say that I am not convinced that this is the right player for Milan right now. He will certainly not improve the current lineup. If M/M decide to buy him it is purely as a prospect. My guess is that he will rarely be in the starting lineup.

    1. If it is just prospect, better pick the 18 years old from Stade Rennais. 3 years younger means he can be improved a lot more.

    2. That makes sense though, we’re not going to find (or afford) a Kessie replacement so we know the starters will be Bennacer and Tonali with Pobega as a more than competent backup.

Getting someone in to learn and play a few games in the rotation with the aim of developing isn’t a bad shout. Have to remember the club’s target for the season is likely UCL qualification rather than winning the title.

That said, maybe if Kessie can’t be registered he’ll be available on loan!

      1. Loan Kessie 😁

Milan has been vocal abouth targetting the 2nd star though (20th Scudetto).

The stake is high as it is about who get the 2nd star first between Milan and inter.

        1. They have to be confident and vocal about it, but if you’re the club’s accountants planning for next year, you are probably basing it on a 3rd or 4th place finish rather than first or second.

  3. Tbis was the same panic buy they did In January when they bought lazetic who i s dont know what his role is….another panic buy is on the way, what exactly do we need this kid for? This management bore me like hell, we already miscalculated and spent almost all the budget in an area already occupying two players…..keep the players you have, you dont need SPeNd on anyone you see because he is cheap, bakayoko is there, krunic and pobega, so where will this kid fit? ..those million wasted on lazetic could have aided Sanchez salary and also help with the CB loan deal, we want to waste 10m again on this kid, what will his role be?? Sometimes the inexperience of our directors shows…no money for good players? Then keep what you have

    1. LOL.

Who am I to trust? You? Or the guys that just brought Milan the scudetto with 0 budget in January?

They bore you? You are more than welcome to find another team. Sanches didnt leave because the salary was better. He went to PSG to reunite with his old coach. Get your facts straight before you come on here and attack the management that just brought home the 19th scudetto. And also, a LEGEND of this club.

Some of you really have 0 idea how football works. They didnt miscalculate anything. CDK is going to be a world class player, and not in very long. You bring up that they brought him in for an area with other players already there. Who? Diaz? Krunic? Those would be the warm bodies you were speaking of. CDK will be able to unlock the defense in the final third, which is why it took Milan until the last game of the year to win the scudetto.

Had they had someone with his passing ability and vision Milan would have won much sooner.

      1. You shouldn’t waste your breath on that man because he seems to like whining about pretty much anything. He complained a lot about kessie and how Milan need to give the player the salary he desired, lol. He’s now concentrating on Sanchez, who almost everyone knew wanted to play for his former mentor and other elite players. The only comment that irritated me was the one that questioned our decision to purchase CDK. That was just plain dumb, to put it mildly.

  4. This guy is a great talent, I have watched him since he replaced another Nigerian player at Mittchyland FC. I have already tipped him for the national team
