Sky Germany: Milan, Inter and Brighton all enquire about Werder Bremen goalkeeper

AC Milan are one of three teams to have expressed an interest in Werder Bremen goalkeeper Mio Backhaus, a report claims.

Going into the summer, one would presume that goalkeeper is a position that Milan do not need to do a lot of business. Mike Maignan has renewed his contract until 2030, while Pietro Terracciano has been a reliable deputy to him when called upon.

Not only that, but there are a number of young keepers in the system that are highly thought of, from Matteo Pittarella and Lorenzo Torriani to Alessandro Longoni and Léo Paul Bouyer.

Milan derby for Backhaus?

Nonetheless, Sky Germany (via Bulinews) are reporting that Milan, Inter and Brighton & Hove Albion are all monitoring Werder Bremen goalkeeper Mio Backhaus in view of the summer window, along with various clubs in Germany.

They state that both Milanese sides have asked about the 22-year-old goalkeeper. Inter are looking for a new starter with Yann Sommer out of contract, having been linked with names like Vicario at Spurs.

Freiburg have previously been linked with a move for Backhaus too. His contract with Werder Bremen runs until 2028 and he has made 28 appearances for them this season, which is his first as the No.1 goalkeeper.

While it is difficult to ascertain exactly what Milan’s intentions would be with Backhaus, it is possible he would be viewed as an ‘understudy’ to Maignan; a younger deputy who can grow under the Frenchman before potentially taking over down the line.
