Milan, Inter, Council and Webuild meet over San Siro plan – three hypotheses emerge

By Oliver Fisher -

A meeting between AC Milan, Inter, the Council of Milan and WeBuild regarding the San Siro renovation project at the Palazzo Marino has just ended.

The possible €300m+ overhaul of San Siro is a plan that Milan are considering in parallel with the possible construction of a new stadium in San Donato Milanese, which the leadership have confirmed in recent days remains the priority.

La Gazzetta dello Sport have relayed what filtered from today’s meeting, which requested publicly (and with particular haste) by the mayor Beppe Sala. Not much emerged, but the requests from Milan and Inter were presented directly to the council.

There were two key points of the discussion. The first concerns WeBuild, the company that presented the proposal for the plan for the renovation of San Siro to the council and the clubs. The second concerns the two clubs, who have reiterated their fixed points.

They are: the desire to modernise the facility, the possibility of playing while the works are ongoing and thus not losing box office revenues and to get an increase in VIP and hospitality seats.

As per Calcio e Finanza, there are three hypotheses at the moment:

  1. A ‘bridge solution’: intermediary works before Milan and Inter move definitively to a new purpose-built stadium.
  2. A ‘more in-depth renovation’ of the San Siro.
  3. A ‘middle ground’ between the definitive modernisation of the San Siro and lighter work while awaiting the move to a new home

The next meeting will be in three months, when WeBuild will present the actual feasibility study of the San Siro project.
