MN: Quality, leadership and charisma – Milan’s €14m investment on Maignan paying dividends

The role of goalkeeper can often go without necessary praise given the emphasis on the outfield departments, but fans have fallen in love with Mike Maignan.

MilanNews recalls how the Frenchman took the spot of Gianluigi Donnarumma after he chose not to renew his contract and to join PSG, and Maignan immediately showed a strong personality on the pitch, settling in Milanello and showing Stefano Pioli he can be relied upon.

Barring very rare occurrences such as Federico Bonazzoli’s goal for Salernitana where he was punished for coming off his line, Maignan has always guaranteed quality and making the defence in front of him feel comfortably too.

Given that he cost €14m and earns only €2.8m per season, the investment in the player can already be defined as a success. So far Maignan has played 22 games in Serie A, conceding 19 goals, and making 60 saves at 2.73 saves per game.

In total has has played 28 matches with 27 goals let in. Quality, leadership, personality and charisma have proven that going for the Magic Eagle was a good choice.
