Tuttosport: Milan make €50m Lille star No.1 target – an offer is being formulated

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan must freshen up their attack and the number one target ahead of the summer is Jonathan David of Lille, according to a report.

According to today’s edition of Tuttosport (via SempreMilan.it), David is at the top of the list of targets compiled by Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara in view of the summer, with youth needed given Olivier Giroud will turn 37 this year and Zlatan Ibrahimovic is four years older plus he could leave or retire.

David is having an excellent season for Lille having scored 19 goals in 27 games in Ligue 1, and he has convinced the Rossoneri scouts who are now working in synergy with the management to try to develop an adequate offer to present to the French club.

The Canada international has an understandably high asking price of €50m+, but the good relations between the two clubs – both of which have been run by Elliott Management in the past – could facilitate negotiations as per the paper.

  1. Can’t wait to pay 50m and watch him flop in here… I don’t know why but I’ve never been impressed. I hope I’m wrong and he lights up Serie A.

  2. This is partly response on Zoro Caloro post:

Milan can’t flop if keep this same way of functioning. For example De Ketelaere is not flop. That player is young and still have a lot of time to adopt Milan way of play. Tomorrow he can be sold for some amount and Milan already paid his first contract and in the books one fifth of his total amount.

The same applies for all young players that arrives.

Milan needs to invest every year total amount that is possible and not to generate financial loss in next season.

Buying young players always allows option for future selling.

But investing in players like Hakan, Dybala, Pogba, Di Maria who are superstars is much more risky. With them you are one injury near to total loss of acquisition.

    1. Im not saying you are wrong in your viewpoint and argumentation here but as the player costs a fair deal more there are deffently greater chance of coming out with a greater loss if the players form and value plummets and investing 50+mil on a player that up untill recently hasnt been able to score as consistently as currently could be a risk but also maybe a risk worth taking, When that is said i have great doubts that we would be able to facilitate a deal for him regardless of good relationship with lille as he wont be sold for less than his valuation and the ownership has been pretty adamant about not spending too much on transfers.

  3. hes not worth 50ml and he already said he doesnt rate Serie A as a top league so forget him. Much rather spend 30-35ml$ on Retegui

  4. It seems to me that what’s in fashion plays as much of a part in this as anything.

The EPL has chronically inflated player value and it seems to be in fashion to ride the EPL coattails…instead of objectively assessing worth, we seem to want to get involved in a bidding war that wouldn’t make sense even if we had the money.

19 goals in France is worth €50m, valued on TM as €60?

We’re going to blow our whole budget on a striker who is unproven? It’s madness.

  5. Seriously, this guy was born in 2000.

So at the same age, Scamacca (born in 1999) scored 16 goals in the Serie A.

16 Serie A goals vs 19 goals in France. Do the maths…

We judge Italians and players in Italy much too harshly.

David is also small so he’s not a target man which automatically reduces the range of roles he can play.

  6. LOL. Milan cannot afford to pay 50M€ for a single player until the new stadium is in use. Stop dreaming.

And also… We spent 80-90% of the transfer budget on one player. How did that work out? Be real. Milan isn’t buying players with +40M€ price tags this summer. Not even if Leao gets sold. Which is good since it’s not just one player who Milan need to fix the poor squad they have. Milan needs 3-4 new players who actually strengthen the team. Even if we got Haaland as the #9 it wouldn’t help us winning the scudetto again as there are bigger issues in the squad.
