AC Milan are giving serious thought to the idea of having a second team like Juventus have with their Next Gen side, a report claims.
According to Calciomercato.com, the FIGC is preparing to discuss the issue of second teams in the meeting of the Federal Council which will take place on April 19. At the moment, only Juve have one as their ‘Next Gen’ team took over the legacy of the Under 23s.
The meeting of the Federal Council has been convened for 11:30 CEST on Wednesday 19 April and among the items on the agenda is: “…discussion and proposals; participation of Serie A Second Teams in the 2023/2024 Serie C season consequent decisions; competent appointments; regulatory changes; any measures pursuant to art. 20, paragraph 6, Federal Statute on proposal of LND (assembly delegates); various and possible.”
Milan are one of the teams interested in launching a team to compete in the league. Ricky Massara attended a forum called ‘Second teams in Italy and in Europe, a model for the future?’ back in November, which the president of the Lega Serie A Lorenzo Casini, the president of the FIGC Gabriele Gravina and Francesco Ghirelli – then president of the Lega Pro – attended.
Milan are evaluating the opportunity, perhaps with new rules to manage the project, while Monza, Roma and Sassuolo also seem to be interested in the idea.
