MN: Temptation ‘very great’ for Pioli to field Kessie as the playmaker against Inter

Franck Kessie will make his return to the starting line-up against Inter on Saturday night, with the only doubt being regarding the position he will occupy.

According to MilanNews, Kessie will return to Italy today after undergoing a scan on the injury he picked up in the Ivory Coast’s penalty shootout defeat against Egypt in the African Cup of Nations last 16, and there is no apprehension about his condition.

Tomorrow he will return to training at Milanello and will immediately be available Stefano Pioli, who has an eye on the derby next weekend given that it is huge in the fight for the Scudetto. The only certainty is that Kessie will start, but what must be determined is whether he starts alongside Sandro Tonali in the double pivot or further up the field.

Brahim Diaz is certainly not going through a good period of form despite the assurances from both the Spaniard and Pioli about his improved physical condition, so the temptation of using Kessie as the attacking midfielder is ‘very great’.

The Ivorian has shown that he is suited to play in that role, so much so that in the match against Empoli to close 2021 he gave his side a presence in the opposing third and some more steel to the high press, scoring twice too. The temptation is there, and Pioli will decide in the coming days.
