Matteo Moretto has outlined what AC Milan’s plans are for the midfield department, amid links with a Valencia star.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport spoke of a ‘revolution’ in the middle of the park, with Leon Goretzka joined by Javi Guerra on the list of targets, as well as the likely exits of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Youssouf Fofana to factor in.

Matteo Moretto provided an update on the strategy that Milan will take for the midfield in an update on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, with his words relayed by MilanVibes.

He confirmed that Milan ‘have been inquiring about Javi Guerra for several windows’. He is a player they like because they see ‘his value increasing over the years’. Above all, he embodies the technical characteristics Massimiliano Allegri wants: he’s physically strong, technically strong and tall.

However, he has a contract until 2029 and ‘is not having a good season’, partly due to the difficult situation of Valencia, who are fighting to avoid relegation and have had several problems on the pitch to contend with.

He signed a contract renewal a year ago and the Rossoneri had ‘already negotiated for him last summer’, along with Jashari. After that, Milan decided to go for the Swiss and focus on him, but Guerra was a name they thought about.

Speaking of Jashari, Moretto confirms that next season Milan ‘will try to make the most of’ the former Brugge man making him ‘a starter at all costs’. Rather than look to offload him after a first season with some difficulties, they aim to give him ‘the keys to the midfield’.

So, Guerra isn’t the first choice, he’s a name on the list but he’s not a priority. If the financial situation were to become favourable he could be considered, but Allegri likes Ismael Koné more than the Spaniard due to his characteristics.

  1. Milan should be able to get both Guerra and Kone once RLC and Fofana leaves. Bondo should be kept for squad depth and Musah should be used at RWB.

      1. Being a better player than Ricci shouldn’t be the reason why Fofana should stay. Neither one of them should be playing for a club like Milan.
Jashari missed half of the season because of a broken leg and sits behind Modric. Next 4 games will show if Fofana is better than him

        1. You can not change the whole midfield department. Fofana is surely suitable and adequate for a solid backup (4th in a pecking order) if not for a starting right mezz’ala even.

          1. If Milan can get the money back they paid for Fofana and then some they should take it right away. He is making more shaqtin’ a fool plays than good plays.
What whole department are you changing if you sell Fofana? He is the only player in the midfield department that is actually used that would be sold. RLC has barely been available the last 2 seasons. So you are not losing anything if you sell him too.

        2. I thought it was a given that RLC is out of the club but I don’t see the logic in keeping Ricci instead of Fofana. I would sell RLC and Ricci and bring three midfielders, we ought to have at least seven MC’s because anything less that that would damage us severely.

          1. Switch him (for example) with Fagioli. If Kone is a viable target and easily meets the conditions required for having the aforementioned quota, we can bring him and have this kind of midfield: Goretzka/Kone/Fofana (Guerra, Musah), Modric (Fagioli), Rabiot (Ardon, Bondo/Zeroli/Comotto); obviously, there is plenty of room for many kind(s) of rotations in the midfield but of the things we mustn’t allow is having Gabbia, Alexis and Bartesaghi at the same time in the starting XI, especially both Alexis and Barte because they would be used in the flanks which would then suffer enormously, emphasis on Davide who is still not good enough to be a starter…

          2. Kone doesn’t meet the homegrown quota.
He isn’t Italian, he is 23 years old and has been in Italy for less than a year

          3. “Switch him (for example) with Fagioli. “ That is 1 player. Do you even understand how CL squad registration works? You have to have 4 club and 4 nation “homegrown “ players or you lose spots.

          4. “ By switching Ricci with Fagioli we wouldn’t lose any spot whatsoever, my friend.”

Yes, you don’t understand. Just say it like that.

3 spots are lost like that.

          5. What the hell are you talking about?
Ricci isn’t a Milan youth (academy) product
but a homegrown player just like Fagioli. How would we lose even one spot, let alone three? Stop being so arrogant.

        3. Then we can agree on that (that) it doesn’t make much sense replacing Ricci with Kone and selling Fofana as much as it maybe sounds appealing to some fans because we have too little Italians and there is an obvious need to “boost” that number. Fagioli and Kone instead of Ricci and Fofana? OK. Summary: DC, LWB, MC and SC must be brought, let’s say Gila, Grimaldo, Goretzka and Vlahovic (?), also, we need 1 more DC instead of Odogu and 1 more MC in case we sell RLC as we should in my opinion. In addition to that, we are obligated to bring 1 more SC and maybe some FC in place of Nkunku and starting RWB to improve everything. So, 8 or 9 new players without any exaggeration.

  2. Jashari just needs to wait and learn all he can from Modric

He isnt fast enough to play in Rabiot role, the deep role is perfect for him.
