AC Milan are interested in signing Mario Gila from Lazio, Matteo Moretto has confirmed, but there are no ongoing talks at the moment.
Of all of the central defenders that Milan have been linked with over the past few months, Gila’s is perhaps the name that has been mentioned the most. Sporting director Igli Tare knows him well having signed him while at Lazio, and the fact his deal expires in 2027 adds a layer of opportunism.

Moreover, Massimiliano Allegri is believed to be in favour of signing a defender that is either experienced generally or someone who knows the league, and the Spaniard ticks the latter box. During the week, it was suggested that tonight’s game would be used to scout Gila first hand.
‘Certainly a name on Milan’s list’
Matteo Moretto spoke in a video published on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel (via MilanNews) and he gave an update on Gila’s future based on what he knows, amid the strong Milan links.
“Gila is a name that Milan have been linked with since January, but he’s not an easy target because there’s a lot of competition for the Spanish defender. Added to this is the fact that relations between Milan and Lazio aren’t ideal at the moment,” he said.
“However, I can confirm that Gila is a name that the Rossoneri are following. There’s no negotiation, we need to go through a process to get to talking about something concrete, but he’s certainly a name on Milan’s list.
“He’s one of the names on the list, I wouldn’t go any further because there’s nothing more at the moment. He’s a player they like, his contract expires in 2027.
“Gila isn’t just liked by Milan, but also by other Italian clubs and they’re also keeping an eye on his possible return to Spain. He’s a name to keep in mind for Milan’s summer transfer window.”
