CM: Moncada targets Lyon midfielder as Milan search for Bennacer deputy

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan management are on the hunt for a new deputy to Ismael Bennacer and they have identified a name in Ligue 1, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com report that Milan’s summer idea is to find an alternative to Bennacer because this season so far Tommaso Pobega, Rade Krunic and Aster Vranckx have played in his place but without contributing the same characteristics.

Among the players on the list of the scouting team – led by Geoffrey Moncada – is Johann Lepenant, who moved last summer from Caen to Lyon for €4.2m plus €2.5m in bonuses (with the Normandy club having 10% of the proceeds from a future resale).

So far this season Lepenant has played 19 out of 24 games with 13 coming as starter, and one goal scored on January 29 against Ajaccio. In a short time he became a pillar of Laurent Blanc’s side, with the ex-PSG boss taking over from Peter Bosz in October.

Blanc has the aim of bringing Lyon back to the European spots but they are 15 points behind the Champions League places, a competition that Milan are on course to play in next season which provides an added incentive.
