MN: Milan lose Gabbia ahead of Derby della Madonnina with Thiaw needing assessment

Last night did not go the way that AC Milan needed it to. Fans are now more frustrated than they previously were, and to help this further, there is now a bit of shortness at the back.

Milan’s 2023/24 season was derailed by injuries, especially in the defensive line. Approaching the January mercato, there was a clear need for re-inforcement and Matteo Gabbia returned from his loan spell in Spain.

This season, the Rossoneri have been fortunate to avoid a similar problem, yet they have not gotten better as a result. In fact, they are in a much, much worse position. Domestically, there has been a substantial drop off, and in Europe, things have not been much better.

Had things gone differently last night, perhaps we could have viewed the situation differently. However, we know this is not the case.

The big issue was the defeat against a Dinamo Zagreb side who were not fantastic, and the manner of defeat was equally as bad. As a result, the Diavolo have now got themselves a ticket to the Round of 16 Play-off phase, which is another two games that are really not needed at the moment.

Unfortunately for Milan, they have also suffered another injury at the back and Gabbia will now spend a period sidelined. The defender, who was pivotal against Inter in Serie A earlier this season, will miss the game after suffering a muscle contusion in his calf, according to Milan News.

His condition is set to be evaluated in the next few days. With the Italian set to miss the derby, the options at the back are quite limited, but Malick Thiaw is set to be assessed. Whether he will be able to feature is not yet known.

    1. Gabbia gone, Thiaw unsured, only tired Pavlovic and rusty Tomori left. Moral are very low, and Inter in their best form this week. The question is how many goal you wanna conceded?

    2. It doesn’t matter whether they’re world class or not as long as their heart are fully of historical milan’s dignity then you can be strong and ultimately be the world class we are talkin about, innit

    3. Nobody ever said Gabbia was world class, he has a football brain that exceeds his physical ability. He’s a good defender nonetheless, better than anything your country has ever produced. If Gabbia was from your county he’d be your greatest footballer of all time.

  1. LOL @ all the people dissing Gabbia here. One mistake and he’s the worst defender we’ve ever had. Gabbia-Thiaw kept four clean sheets in Fonseca’s last 6 games. Up until Conceicao took over, we had the 5th best defense in Serie A. CAN’T WAIT for Pavlovic-Tomori against Inter. We’re going to get destroyed 4-0.

    1. That’s how you weed out who knows what the fcuk they are talking about and who doesn’t.

Is Gabbia world class? Absolutely not. He isn’t even fast but he is positionally sound and calm and provides that calmness to his CB partner.

We don’t have a choice but to gamble with Pablo and Tomori both of whom have erratic tendencies. Hopefully calmer heads prevail.

  2. So many lost souls around here. Gabbia is actually our only defender who ISN’T a candidate for being the worst in the last two seasons. Pick anyone else you would have your valid arguments.

  3. Bad news. Mistakes like the one of yesterday can happen, the pitch conditions were also a factor. Gabbia remains our best defender after Thiaw, and both are out for the derby.
Tomori is the real liability here, Milan defensive performance improved under Fonseca when is was finally benched for good. Thiaw-Gabbia was the only good thing left by Fonseca and now it’s gone.

  4. Anytime I see tomori among the defenders,I will actually know that milan will conceive a lot of goals.Tomori and theo are the worst milan players now and derserved to be sold.

  5. Gabbia has been our most consistent defender this season, all these Arabs talking nonsense if he played for any of your countries he’d be your greatest player of all time.

  6. This season is putting all of our management’s deficiencies on full display exposing how thin we are and how little quality is actually in this team …

    Well done …

  7. The virgin plastics down here trying to diss our best CB after 1 mistake. Yall have no business being here. Go support PSG or some other no name, losers
