Reports: Milan lose promising goalkeeper as PSG seal free transfer – the reasons

AC Milan are set to lose goalkeeping talent Alessandro Longoni as he will head for Paris Saint-Germain, reports claim.

There is already a link between Milan and PSG this summer, namely the deal involving Goncalo Ramos who will head for San Siro in a club-reocrd deal. Now, they are looking to strengthen a back-to-back Champions League winning squad by signing Maghnes Akliouche and Yan Diomandé.

Amidst all this, they’ve also found time to secure one of the most promising Italian goalkeepers around. Longoni – European champion with the Under-17 national team in 2024 – is heading for the French capital as reports suggested he would.

Now, Fabrizio Romano is reporting the following: “Paris Saint-Germain have signed young Italian GK Alessandro Longoni from AC Milan on a free. Renato Marin will go on loan to Portugal. Longoni will sign soon and be the third goalkeeper.”

The reasons

Calciomercato.com confirm the news, and reveal some background on Longoni’s choice. The keeper has been ‘at odds’ with the management for some time, especially after the decision to include Matteo Pittarella and Lorenzo Torriani over him in the first-team squad.

This relegated Longoni to the Primavera and Milan Futuro teams in Serie D. In addition to not being convinced by his pathway, there are economic factors when discussing the terms of a potential extension led to the abrupt separation.

According to Le Parisien, Alessandro Longoni will be immediately included in the group led by Luis Enrique and, barring any surprises, will start as third-choice goalkeeper behind new starter Matvey Safonov and Lucas Chevalier.
