GdS: Milan turn to Ligue 1 duo in search of midfield reinforcements

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are on the hunt for new midfielders ahead of the 2022-23 season and a couple of names from Ligue 1 jump out, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport write that while there is the ownership situation to resolve, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are already working on potential signings and they know the midfield department is an area they must intervene.

The departure of Franck Kessie on a free transfer leaves a big hole to fill and it is thought that a dynamic replacement is needed; one who has both the physicality and defensive ability to play in the double pivot but also the creative characteristics that the Ivorian has shown.

The radar is aimed at France as Lille’s Renato Sanches is at the top of the list of targets for the midfield, but signing the Portugal international will not be easy as they tried in January but the salary requests prohibited a deal going through.

Milan have started monitoring Maxence Caqueret of Olympique Lyonnais, and could be ready to pounce for the 22-year-old if he does not renew his contract.
