GdS: Milan management must reflect on January plan after another damaging result

The AC Milan management will be forced to reflect on their current stance regarding the January window after such a bad start to 2023, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport write how Milan with last night’s defeat to Inter, Milan equaled the longest streak without a win under Pioli’s management which is four games in a row, previously done in February 2021.

That team was a Milan still under construction, while this should in theory be further along and should have a deeper squad. Speaking of which, it is a squad list with 31 players after the arrival of Devis Vasquez, and yet there is not the strength in depth to guarantee Pioli smooth rotation.

The embarrassment in Riyadh once again certified the inconsistency of the new signings from the summer, with a further problem: we are in January and therefore they are no longer so new.

Fans are questioning why Milan have not prepared an action plan on the transfer market, yet Paolo Maldini has already declared that the Rossoneri ‘won’t do anything in the winter transfer market’, a choice endorsed by Pioli who said: ‘The squad is fine as it is’.

Given there are over 30 players available to Pioli, exits would probably be needed first like Tiemoue Bakayoko, Yacine Adli or Marko Lazetic, the latter two obviously being six-month loan deals.

Olivier Giroud is visibly tired and Divock Origi’s contribution has not arrived yet, just as a higher quality right winger would be needed compared to Alexis Saelemaekers and Junior Messias, plus a deputy to Mike Maignan who has more presence than Tatarusanu, even if he was actually worthy of a passing grade last night.

The club are thinking about all of the above, knowing all of the facts, and maybe a new name will come up in the next few days. The problem is that we are just 13 days from the end of the window, so things must move quickly.
