CM: Milan aim to rush through Leao’s renewal as Man City, Barcelona and Dortmund call Mendes

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are hoping to close the renewal of Rafael Leao before the resumption of Serie A action after the international break, a report claims.

According to Calciomercato.com, a meeting is scheduled in the next few days between Jorge Mendes – the agent of the winger – and his former club Lille to discuss the the issue involving Sporting CP.

It has been ruled that €20m compensation must be paid to the Portuguese club after the unilateral termination of his contract in the summer of 2018, but Mendes and Lille must now resolve what portion each part will pay.

Once that meeting has taken place and an agreement has been reached, Mendes will talk with Milan about the future of his client. Leao has given priority to Paolo Maldini and to the Rossoneri because he is happy and he wants to renew.

The offer on the table is a two-year extension – therefore from 2024 to 2026 – with a salary of €5m net per season including bonuses. However, an agreement remains to be found with Mendes, who has also received calls from Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona.

  1. Suspect Man City are just playing games with Sterling but PSG would make sense with their MBappe replacement fund. Could be a great time to sell and reinvest.
