CM: Milan not scared despite rumours Guardiola has ‘fallen in love with’ winger – Maldini’s mission

AC Milan have been alerted by the fact that Manchester City are interested in signing Rafael Leao so have planned their response, according to a report.

According to Calciomercato.com, Leao is a talent on which Milan are focusing strongly both for the present and for the future despite the rumours coming from England that Pep Guardiola has ‘fallen in love with’ the Portuguese winger and might try persuade City to launch a bid in January.

While it is true that agent Jorge Mendes has been in contact with City, it is over Joao Felix who is on course to leave Atletico Madrid. It is probably true that the Premier League side also obtained information on Leão but Milan have no intention of selling, especially mid-season.

In fact, directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have a clear plan: to armour Leão with the extension of his contract until 2026. Negotiations have already been going on for a few weeks and a new meeting is expected in Milan with his agent Mendes.

The Rossoneri’s plans are also to raise Leao’s salary from the current €2m net per season to about €4m with bonuses. Manchester City, at the moment, do not scare Millan.

  1. If they lose Leo, the project will be delayed another 3 years. This cannot happen. If they EVER sell Leo, it needs to be in the 80 mil to 100 mil range after he’s helped us win some significant silverware. HIs sale would need to lead to 3 good signings otherwise it’s a huge loss.

    1. With Kessie leaving and Donnarumma before him, maybe its not a bad idea to start new rebuild around Tonali.

      1. We are already stronger financially – but a 200m gap to top clubs exist. We can close some of it organically.
      2. Look at salary reports – we ate nowhere near Inter, which is far from juve. We do excellent with what we pay.
      3. We have Tonali, Kalulu who are very young and proven. Pobega and Adli are close, there is Maldini and Colombo.
We can add Kamara who is 20, get Omeragic on loan to develop for cheap. Nketiah is for free in this summer.

      4. I agree its far better, even if we decide with mine, younger version of rebuild – as the one who will honestly challange UCL top – not to sell Leao. Sell Theo for 60 – 70 if possible, but Leao should go for more. But if we get 150 for both this winter, we can build great squad. One that would still challenge Scudetto every year, maybe go far in Europa league, but would grow to be leaders in 3-4 years.

And what is important we would be the only Italian big club without debts. We could capitalize on Juve, Roma, Inter problems.

  2. Leao is very important for the team but tbh if we can get like 120M or more from selling him and Theo, and add that money to the budget for signings we can build a very strong team with that.

  3. Leao isn’t good enough. His end product (final pass/cross/shot) ALWAYS disappoints. He plays one decent match and then goes missing for 3. And still way too lazy in defending. Rebic is better.
