SM: Two exits and two new arrivals – how Milan’s midfield should look in 2022-23

By Oliver Fisher -

The Milan management are working on how the midfield will look moving forward and there is already the idea of replacing Tiemoue Bakayoko, a report claims.

According to what we have learned from our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, Franck Kessié – whose contract will expire at the end of the season – has been courted by Barcelona for some time and he is unlikely to reject the possibility of joining the Blaugrana or a Premier League team.

Milan want Renato Sanches to replace him having tracked him for three years now, and while he may not be a direct replacement in terms of characteristics, he would make Kessié’s farewell less destabilising from a numerical point of view.

However, the feeling is that the Ivorian will not be the only exit because Tiémoué Bakayoko is out of favour and could therefore have his loan terminated early. In which case, he will be replaced by one of the most positive surprises of this Serie A season: Tommaso Pobega.

He has a total of 4 goals and an assist in just 23 games this season under Ivan Juric. He is physically strong, with excellent technique and vision, so he could really represent the future together with Tonali.

Therefore, we have reason to believe that Bennacer-Tonali-Renato Sanches-Pobega will be the new nomenclature of the Milan midfield for the 2022-23 season.

  1. Baka will shine in double pivot on AFCON period. He is a perfect DMC. We need him as a rotation player, especially in champions league matches

  2. How do you guys criticise pioli and his tactics week in, week out even though we are sitting 1st on the table with a squad everyone thinks is below standard?

We have beaten every one of the teams we are battling for the title with and you are still writing about how you can do a better job than the management that have us doing so well after nearly 10 years of big signings and managers that haven’t made the champions league

  3. Bakayoko has been useless. I wouldn’t mind Kamara as well. Can’t remember which French team he is with. Pioli has done a fantastic job given the challenges he has had.

    1. Kamara is with Marseille – and I agree he would be an ideal signing for the mid (and can even cover CB if needed) and especially he’s a free transfer. A midfield of Tonali, Bennacer, Sanches, Poegba and Kamara would be devastating. Good luck to any team trying to break us down with that group.
