Milan midfielder Halilovic: “I can still be like Luka Modric”

On-loan AC Milan midfielder Alen Halilovic has made the bold claim that he can ‘be like Luka Modric’ in the future.

Formerly of Barcelona, the Croatia international arrived at the Rossoneri on a free transfer last summer but made just three appearances in his first season – all coming in the Europa League.

The 23-year-old was then sent to Standard Liege on an 18-month loan in January, but that loan spell was cut short due to his unhappiness.

Earlier this month it was confirmed that Halilovic would be joining Eredivisie side Heerenveen on loan, where he has made two league appearances thus far.

Despite a rocky time recently, the young midfielder believes he still has what it takes to reach the very top.

“Heerenveen did everything to sign me, which was lucky for me,” he told Voetbal International.

“It’s a good choice, this League suits me. I want to prove that I can be one of the best in the Eredivisie and among the top in Europe.

“I was in an unpleasant situation with Standard, I did not feel happy there. I played everything last season, but it was different after the summer.

“I had a number of conversations with the club and all kinds of promises were made, but the opposite happened ten minutes later.

“In Milan, they were disappointed with how Standard Liege treated me. I talked to them, they made me some promises, but then the opposite happened. They caused me problems.

“I have the feeling that I can still be like Modric.”
