So, why not look to his captain and potentially the backbone of his fantastic team in Portugal? Of course, he is also a player of significant quality beyond those traits; this would not be a token signing of an over-aged player to have ‘in and around the squad’, as they say.
Milan miss out on Hjulmand
For the Rossoneri, though, there have been other priorities. Matteo Moretto stated that a defender and striker were more important and then perhaps Hjulmand would be considered. However, adding another midfielder isn’t a top priority.
Even if he were to become one now, it would be too late, with the Dane heading to Spain.
As Fabrizio Romano confirmed with his iconic ‘here we go’ catchphrase, the midfielder is on his way to Atletico Madrid in a deal worth more than €40 million. All terms have been agreed and he will fly to Spain.
Perhaps it will be one that got away from the Rossoneri. However, they cannot be disappointed with their mercato so far.

We’re talking about TYPE of midfielder, not numbers. Who care if we have ten midfielders, if they’re all box to box, it’s useless. We need a true DM. We’ve needed one since Kessie left. It’s why we’ve been forced to play with three at the back, on top of the questionable quality of our CBs.

We have 9 MC curently but at least four of them will be sold. Bennacer is already well on his way out, his contract will be terminated which leaves us with just eight players (nine if you count Zeroli as well) but, as I said, half of them won’t remain at the club. The fact of the matter is that Rabiot needs a better partner in the midfield then all of them, we are Milan after all…
He was definately on the list of players considered, but never a priority as media wanted to make it sound it was. Somehow they are portraying as we missed out on something important, I know it is not that way.
We are moving I would say very positive forward, with clarity and plan. How good this mercato is going to be, remains to be seen, as there are many dynamics that will influence the outcome. One thing for sure, if so then it will not be the money or intent, but rather other factors.
Somehow all the people that flood comment section with negativity are now silent when good news arrive.
Who are we selling?
Not sure if Hjulmand was ever an option or lip service from the media… So far these guys go directly after their specific targets.
Milan didn’t miss because they never were interested, I highly doubt that another central midfielder will come this Sunday if Modric stays. What I m really upset about is Atletico got Grimaldo for free, imagine getting him for Amorim system

He is almost 31 years old and he had only year of (the) contract remaining so that’s more than a fair price all things considered.
Come one we paid close to 20 for flops like Royal and Estupinan, 30 years almost 31 he could have at least 4-5 years of good football. The reason I want him is because I saw him playing in Germany and we need a wideback who can attack and create chances. Hopefully they bring someone because I m not mentally prepared to see another season with Estupinian and Barte
Don’t get me wrong, I was for Grimaldo just like you. Ramos, Gila, LWB, AMRC, DC, MC, we need all of this.
You can’t miss out on something you were never after. Milan’s “link” to this guy was clearly an Italian media invention.
