AC Milan are planning another big signing after the addition of Goncalo Ramos, and Virgil van Dijk’s name has emerged.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Ramos is currently in Florida with the Portuguese national team, and tomorrow he’ll be in Toronto for the round of 16 match against Croatia. Yesterday, he was announced as the record signing in Milan’s history, signing a five-year deal.

Despite this massive addition, Milan must look forward, and to look forward they must look backward, because the second major need is a central defender. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in the spring, told the club he wanted a specific player: Virgil van Dijk.
The impossible dream?
Will it be impossible to get him? Perhaps. Van Dijk has another year left on his contract with Liverpool, and they have already lost Ibrahima Konaté in this transfer window, who will leave at the end of his contract and join Real Madrid after the World Cup with France.
However, the idea of Van Dijk has reached Cardinale, and an evaluation of the matter is underway within RedBird Capital. Whether it will lead to an offer remains to be seen. Obviously, it wouldn’t be a question of Liverpool’s financial proposal, but rather of Van Dijk’s desire and salary, which is high.
Virgil would certainly change Milan’s outlook, giving them a champion around whom to build the defence and the team, on and especially off the pitch. Milan hasn’t had an emotional leader of that calibre for a long time.
The most likely option for now is a younger defender, with a lower salary. Gonçalo Inacio is one of the names being considered. He’s 25 like Ramos and played for Amorim at Sporting. He would cost around €30-40m.
It would be a different choice, more for the future and less immediately impactful, but amid all this, there’s the certainty that Milan are ready to spend even more. As for Inacio, however, his last three weeks were spent on Portugal’s bench at the World Cup. It sounds familiar.

Why not someone young and Talented ?. Like Vuskovic ?. or even Van de ven
Because both of them are some of the brightest CB prospects and are both playing in PL so there is no way any of them would be cheaper than 70-80 mil. And they arw not spending that on a CB
Leao wants to play in the PL, use him to trade for one of them. Better to build the foundation for the next 5 years than for just next season with VVD
And why would Tottenham want to give 2 of their CB with great potential for a 28yo LW that is visibly out of motivation?
God bless you,
Lucas Vuskovic would be a great add on to the defense, physicality aerial duels , pace and good with the ball on his feet.
Van Dijk is old, You dont build defence around a 34 year old guy… I’d stay away
You know VDD was in top 10 CBs in Premier League this past season, with average rating of 7.78? IN PREMIER LEAGUE. AT 34.
So still at that age he would be our best CB and arguably one of the best in Serie A. Just remember everyone’s comments when Modric was signed last year
35 one week from today.
TG – VVD/Stones/Inacio – Hjulmand – Liberali – Ramos
Tiago Santos – Ruggeri – backup AMC/LW – backup #9
Van Dijk’s knees and heart are in question at this point of his career, as well as his decision making in recent years has been questionable.
Exactly.
Milan didn’t go for him when he was still young and agile, it’s now they remembered to go for him
Thiago Gabriel > One Dijk
Why do you people always go for old cargos?
They weren’t bought when they were at their prime, it’s now they’re almost retired, exhausted in strength.
Yes they have the experience and skills, what of strength? Or someone who has all.
Do you want to tell there are no young talented, strong players doing well now?
Or also when those ones has been entirely used, then MILAN will recognize them.
Rubbish
This is idiotic. This is why you can’t take Italian media seriously. Another slow news week.
Thank you. So, he wants to leave Liverpool and CL football for a team that is totally rebuilding with a terrible recent history. Oh, and probably for less money. Makes perfect sense to me.
And how much does A. Silva cost again?
