TMW: Milan monitoring teenage Velez Sarsfield star ahead of possible Italy call-up

AC Milan are keeping an eye on the development of Velez Sarsfield winger Gianluca Prestianni, according to a report.

TMW report that Roberto Mancini and the Italian Federation are watching the 17-year-old ahead of a potential call-up for the Azzurri but he does not yet have an Italian passport. However, in six months he should receive it and would be eligible for the national team.

The news of Mancini’s monitoring and the fact Prestianini has a $12m release clause has stirred up the interest of Italian clubs like Fiorentina, while in the coming weeks it is possible that Milan and Napoli will attempt an approach, even if Velez do not want to lose him immediately and would like to keep him for at least another year.

With an Italian passport he would no longer take up a non-EU spot, while Benfica and Sevilla have both offered around $8m plus bonuses to reach an eventual $12m, but neither have closed the deal yet.

West Ham are also keen though their interest is less concrete because they are mathematically not safe in the Premier League yet, so the situation is in total fluidity.

Prestianni has played 10 games for Velez Sarsfield across all competitions and has amassed one goal and one assist.
