Some rather surprising transfer news has arrived regarding Strahinja Pavlovic, who could leave AC Milan after just a few months.
When Milan signed Pavlovic from Red Bull Salzburg during the summer window, investing what was widely reported to be €18m plus bonuses, it was believed that the club had acquired a centre-back who could contribute not just in the future but also in the present.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was present at his unveiling in August and introduced him to the media as follows: “He’s an animal. We did everything to bring him here. He will enter the hearts of the fans. Just look at him and you’re scared.”
However, the Serbia international gradually fell into a bit-part role under Paulo Fonseca after a couple of rough performances. The hierarchies have not changed since Sergio Conceicao arrived, with the new boss preferring Fikayo Tomori and Malick Thiaw or Matteo Gabbia.
According to Matteo Moretto of Relevo and also MilanNews, it is possible that Milan will sell Pavlovic after just six months at the club with some interest having been expressed in Turkey.
Fenerbahçe have been pushing for the signing of the defender for several days now, and negotiations are ongoing between the clubs.
The coaching dept needs a beating with a hammer for the money they’ve wasted
Coaches or Moncada?
I wouldnt cast him out that soon. Shame really.
Let’s hope it’s just a rumor
I like the way he played. He needed more of a chance. He could also have played as a right fullback. That’s been Milan’s problem spot.
Honestly selling this guy is better than the initial Tomori sale they intended. And while they at it they should get rid of Emerson Royal too.
He hasn’t been bad and adjusting to a brand new team is very hard. he scored and had some goal line clearances. I don’t know why all of a sudden he can’t get any minutes but to sell him is way too soon. This guy was one of the promising cb’s destined to go to a good team. Keep him and give him his chance.
It’s what the algorithm dictates. He didn’t play well enough to get more starts right away but at the moment he hasn’t played enough to decrease his value that much either. So it’s determined that it’s safer to not play him anymore and sell him for basically what we bought him for b/c a team will gamble that he’s the same player he was before going to Milan (b/c of the lack of data with his time at Milan). It’s a cold, calculated process of a computer. But the odds say the next player we spend 18mil on will be a hit so we won’t try and rescue this player’s form with us. Forza computer Forza Milan lol.
There’s no algorithm at work here.
Selling him after half a season would only show a lack of vision. Wonder why Milan don’t value their quality backups who are young having the potential to be much better still motivated and hungry waiting on the bench.
Shameful if true. We’re in danger of becoming Man Utd. with all the ins and outs. I feel sorry for Pavlovic and embarrassed for Ibrahimovic. Then, what are we going to do with 3 CBs? The one area where we’re currently not short, and they want to sell one of them? Oh wait, Thiaw is out for like a month. So we are short. Kamikaze management.
It seeks that Milan agreed with Walker. In total salary 8 million until 2027.
He can play also central defender. That means Pavlovic can go.
Kyle Walker is probably too short to play CB, but dunno if coach has better idea.
If they do end up selling him it’s like publicly admitting they made a huge mistake by choosing him over Buongiorno. You know the one who didn’t cost that much more and is one of the best CBs in the league.
Well to be fair Buongiorno cost twice as much as Pavlovic cost us 18 mil while the Italian cost 35 mil.
Yes that’s true Martin but we do actually need defenders in the squad. Perhaps we could have played Jimenez at RB. Not signed Emerson or Pavlovic and used the combined fee to sign Buongiorno.
In the end, trying to penny pinch looks good on the accounts but not on the field. We’re not asking for an 80mn cb, but someone starting calibre is likely to cost more than 18mn
On the other hand, I agree it’s far too soon to ditch him. Why are we looking to sell a CB anyway do we have someone lined up (no not walker he’s a RB)… not like we have an abundance of CBs in the squad
Yes of course we need defenders in the squad and we got Pavlovic amongst others 😀 It could have been a different solution you are suggesting and I’m not saying that it would have been a bad solution either and even for what I care we could have played Calabria instead as well.
I can understand that we want to have healthy finances of the club but I’m not arguing for us to be penny pinching either but I actually am of the view that Pavlovic could become an asset for us but it might take a bit of time for him to adjust.
I’m also sure that give Pavlovic time and he’ll become a starter-level CB for us. He’s got potential.
Agreed, unless he’s had some personal problems behind the scenes (eg demanded to start or leave) then this move after only a few months to sell him seems desperate from the management. It’s like they want to meet some sort of sales target and when they can’t offload origi or okafor they’re turning to almost any player in the squad
bb Yeah give him some time and I feell pretty confident that he will come good.
Kayson Obviously if he had asked to be sold then it would be a different matter. Not sure about the last part but there doesn’t seem to be any question that all players potentially can be sold if they deem an offer reasonable.
He has great potential for us and if they actually sells him after such a short stint with us it will just underline how badly mismanaged and amateurish this club is run.
On a completely different matter and non football related its a truly sad day for the world of cinema as it has been made official that the amazingly unique movie director David Lynch has passed away today 🙁 extremely sad about this news.
RIP maestro.
A true Artist has left us. Twin Peaks altered my mind forever, such a masterpiece.
RIP David Lynch
Absolutely Jerry and I agree and own all of his stuff but even if people doesn’t know him, he pretty much also altered the tv landscape entirely as there was a pre Twin Peaks and a post one. Lots of the by then alternative stuff of the early 1990ies probably wouldn’t have happened had he not paved the way for it. Huge loss.
I’ve heard good things but I’ve never seen his stuff.
If you doesn’t mind weird and peculiar stuff then I will strongly recommend you giving some of his works a chance because then you probably wont be disappointed. I would love to watch his entire backlog of work again with completely new eyes, have fun if you do give it a go.
I don’t understand this at all. He has a ton of potential. he just needs time. He’s played really well at times and then has made mistakes as well, mostly being over-aggressive. Not much different than Thiaw who has been able to put those mistakes behind him and become a very solid defender for us now.
Don’t sign young players if you’re not going to give them a chance to develop and grow. I hope this is not for real.
I don’t understand why Milan wants to sell Pavlovic. If they think he is not up to it then they might as well sell all the defenders. Another blunder with the players that they get rid of and they go on to prove themselves with other Clubs like De Katelare. Shame. All these changes shows that the personnel at the top only run their job by trial and error and is out of control.
Lets just sell all our CB’s. Who needs them? 😩
Hopefully just a loan. If management sell him, it would be counter productive. While keeping Royal in the book. Where’s the logic in that?
That’s just dumb, as he is the only fresh air in the CB department. Hungry, passionate & fearless.
His limits with the ball are quite big. In today’s football in which CB are required to play from the back he will struggle to impose himself at high level. But he is physically impressive and can improve his reading, so I would still give him some time.
There is currently a documentary being made,
called “the destruction of modern football players by Milan”
Folks are welcomed to watch it when it came out. hahah
Its hilarious how many people here believe news from sh*tty sources like Relevo
Milan will regret and suffer a big loss if they sell Pavlovic, just watch..
We need 4 or 5 CB, I guess this news is just to sell some newspaper.
He’s not Stam, but he’s not Caldara also. Still young and can develop more in Serie A. I prefer loan him to another Serie A team. To gain experience and tactical understanding in Serie A
It’s okay if they sell him and buy some younger italian defender. Remember Gabbia and Romagnoli? Young italian usually have brighter future in defending section like catenaccio era back then.
Keep treating players like this and then be supriced when players start to preffer other teams over yours. Players are humans too, you can’t just treat them like this. Pavlovic refused other offers to join Milan. And they want to just ditch him like that after only a couple of months?
Same like Pirlo, Sheva, Kaka, Zlatan, Thiago Silva, when they didn’t want to leave for free but you know management still offloaded him. At least Pavlo is now part of Milan historical team..
The free departure was for Andrea Pirlo back then.
I hope he leaves Milan, it would be the best thing that he can do to not ruin his career. Milan is just not a club for him.
Another flop by the management!! Who is going to answer now???
Yeahhhhhh, Thiaw is just injured and would be out until next month, and we’re gonna sell a defender.. Unlikely.. right??
Beside it would be really dumb and despicable to treat Pavlovic that way. He’s young, but already capped 40+ times for Serbia, and like most foreigners, would need time to acclimatize to the league. The jury is still out. Selling him after 6 months would mean sheer incompetence all across the board. From the scouting process, decision making and man-management.
If this is true, then the only thing this tells me is that Ibrahimovic and Moncada are trying to save their jobs because they (mostly Moncada) have blown over €200 million in the past 18 months. Only 3 of those signings have been big successes – Reijnders, Fofana and Pulisic. Our defence is a disgrace, I grow up seeing our team get shutout after shutout, I hate seeing goals conceded. The midfield is good, but lacks balance and the attack is garbage. If we don’t get UCL next season, there’s no way Ibrahimovic and Moncada will stay. There will only be €50 million or so available, most of that will go on Ricci, who I believe will be signed no matter where we finish because we need Italian players and we need a DM. Concecaio (or the next coach) will have to develop Barteshagi, Zeroli, Camarda, Scotti, Sia etc, which is actually the best strategy.
Convenient stats just to support your argument.
Not mentioning that the sale of Tonali and CDK alone during this period generated about a 100m.
Total player sales in the period is definitely above 100m and we still have some players on loan like Saelemaekers and Adli, so in reality we may have spent only about 50m from the management in the period.
We can debate whether the team is better or not, but I’m just trying to put things in perspective.
The greater loss was the loss of Donnarumma, Kessie and Chalenoglu for free, we definitely lost over 150m.
Well put John. And to be fair, it’s very rare to have success in all transfer targets. 100 million plus Tonali and CDK for Pulisic, Reijnders, Fofana, and Morata plus some depth in RLC, Mussah, ect … isn’t that bad. Our squad is easily top 4 in serie a; it’s our results on the field which are subpar.
2023-2024
Transfers In: €128m
Transfers Out: €67m
2024-2025
Transfers In: €71m
Transfers Out: €34m
That’s €199m in, €101m out.
Then you have around €20 million on Futuro and €20 million on the stadium project.
That’s €240 million invested in just 18 months. This sort of spending isn’t sustainable, the club will go back into debt and that is why now these idiots (Moncada and Ibrahimovic) are scrambling to get players out of the door (Okafor and maybe Pavlovic) because if Milan don’t get 4th place, my guess is they’ll both be sacked because we’ll have to go in a different direction.
There is no blame on Cardinale on Furlani, they are not football men. Their knowledge of the game is limited. The blame is on Moncada, who has been given a lot more power under RedBird, and Ibrahimovic as he also identifies targets.
Oh, comon man.
Another very lame statistics… comon, seriously?
Player sales isn’t the only avenue to generate funds for a football club, comon man, not to talk about a big club like Milan.
Did you calculate how much we generated from:
Tournament prizes,
Serie A standing, Champions Qualification and cup runs?
How about merchandise? Sales of Jersey, sport wears
What about ticket sales?
What about sponsorships?
Clubs just don’t go into debt just because they spend.
We effectively cut cost in this club, how much do we spend really, compared to the size and the brand of the club?
I forgot to mention TV rights.
I mean deals football clubs earn can cover a clubs running cost.
We don’t spend 100m on a single player, what else can put a club of our size in debt?
The profit from last year was €4.1 million. That’s all. So yes, clubs do get into debt because the biggest expenditure is on transfers and salaries. It’s not possible for Milan to spend €100 million on transfers every season. I knew this wouldn’t last, and yet people are so damn stupid, they criticise the management for being cheap. In the modern game, clubs need to be self-sustainable. A tiny profit of €4.1 shows how delicate the situation is.
I may as well just stop this conversation as just take financial figures (in this case 4.1m profit) on the peripheral levels when discussing complex issues such as revenue statements of a giant club like Milan.
So you think the 4.1m was realised after merely paying players salaries?
Do you realise we were in debt before the management took over? Do you realise how much goes into debt servicing before profit is calculated?
Have you forgotten that we have a 550 million vendor loan to pay to Elliott in July 2028?
Will we earn that money from player sales?
There are lots of revenue generating activities for these clubs buddy.
As for Milan right now, our biggest expenditure is definitely not on player purchases and salaries.
Our biggest expenditure is first and foremost to refinance our vendor loan.
Next, will be to construct our stadium.
Everywhere in the world, no club who has such a capital to offset or has a stadium project to execute, makes player purchase and salaries it’s biggest expenditure, that will definitely lead to bankruptcy in no time.
And, just to draw your attention back to the genesis of this conversation, you compared player sales and purchases and came up with the hypothesis that we would be in debt.
I only just tried to tell you that there are several channels of revenue far beyond player sales.
You said the revenue generated is a marginal 4.1m hence, clubs don’t earn much. I’m only trying to tell you that revenue is not what the club generates, revenue is calculated after all financial obligations (including debt from previous management), and also future refinancing obligations have been deducted.
This is lengthy, but pardon me, I couldn’t just summarise it.
We get around 100m alone from Serie A TV rights per season.
Just an instance.
We earned close to 100m from ticket sales in 2024.
Anyone who sanctioned his sale should be sacked immediately, this guy just arrived, he is young , aggressive and fast, and if dumb move is because of Walker, then the managers and the fans who decided to give a 35 year old 8 million for 2 years need to be committed to an asylum, this management has no vision, credibility and honesty, we could get a young defender in Italy, and pay his salary for 3 years with that money, and in the next 5 years, he will still be around 25 years , this team needs to be built for the future, just look at the waste Morata is…
anyone believing this should also sack their brain esp after Pavlovic himself denied it
It doesn’t matter whether it’s true or not, the fact there is scope for these rumours to exist is telling enough. He was about most expensive player in the summer and he’s our joint 4th choice CB with Bartesaghi.
Not only that, WTF was the need to bring him in for? Because he’s a foreigner and Moncada would rather trust a foreigner than giving a chance to Barteshagi.
We created a bad situation for ourself, we intented to replace Malic Thiaw with Pavlovic, then newcastle interest went away and Thiaw regained his form, then Tomori lost his space and Pavlovic got a chance in a period where milan as a team struggled and gets cast out for his two bad performances in a completly new league under a team that is struggling. Obviously he not gonna have a smooth introduction. We need to be more patiance especially desiding induiduals future when we are under a collective problem. You cannot judge like that. Put them in a performing team and all of a sudden you see different players.
Yes we would do like that, but management might have seen performace and price rationenough and decide to make the sale to compesate better player
Tomori has put in 5/10s in every single game he’s played, but we’d rather get rid of our CB with the most potential to become a beast, if they’d actually give him a chance and coach him well…
