CM: Milan not panicking about €38m Nkunku investment despite slow start – the reasons

It has not been the best of starts to life at AC Milan for Christopher Nkunku, but the management have no regrets about signing him.

As Calciomercato.com recall, Nkunku has made eight appearances across all competitions so far in 2025-26, racking up 281 minutes and one goal in the Coppa Italia against Lecce, plus an assist for Alexis Saelemaekers in the most recent league match against Parma.

Nkunku’s start to his Milan career has certainly not been exciting. The former Chelsea man is paying the price for his hard work last season – with the Club World Cup played until July – and his limited use over the last two years.

No panic from Milan

Massimiliano Allegri started him from the start for both Roma and Parma, but he hasn’t been rewarded with performances and with the kind of end product you might expect.

The €38m investment plus €4m in bonuses certainly weighs on everyone’s opinion of Nkunku. The Frenchman, according to Milan’s management, is a very strong player and will be useful to Allegri this season.

The initial difficulties are linked to his adjustment to a different style of football compared to English and German ones and to his physical condition, which is still far from 100%. Tare has no regrets about choosing him at the end of August, when fans were expecting a true No.9.

  1. Last time he did good was 3 years ago. One of the worst signings in history of Milan. For that money you could have gotten an actually good player that was in form last season…

  2. This signing just doesn’t compute by any measure. Not what we needed and I’m sure not what Allegri asked for. Which is why he played him with his back to goal alongside Leao to show Furlani and co that this is NOT the type of player for the system.

That part that blows my mind is that THIS is the sort of player that should have come on loan. Instead they bought him outright.

  3. I’d be panicking. He does look like a bust.

What’s the deal with his supposed poor physical condition? It’s been a while from the start of the season; no recovery yet? Sounds like an excuse.

Today an already qualified France experimented a bit with the lineup so Nkunku started; played for 62 minutes against lowly Azerbaijan; no goals, no assists, managed to vacate one of their goals by touching the ball.

So he can play for 62 minutes but is not 100% fit? And does nothing for France against a very bad team, like he’s been doing nothing for us?

    Looks like Origi to me.

  4. he’s not in good phisically or maybe mentaly too & out of position, no strange that he has less goals nor assists, it’s double blow 4 him, it can be easier if he solved 1of that problems but for now he looks out of shape (bit chubby), always pass back (no courage to drive fw) & definetly not a no9.
Milan need scorer, Allegri need no9, tactic/ formation need that too & Nkunku/ Gimenez is failing, no matter how big Moncada/ Tare want them, it’s just not what we need
