AC Milan have chosen not to make two of their young players available for the Italian national team’s U20 World Cup campaign.

According to Luca Bianchin of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Davide Bartesaghi and Lorenzo Torriani will not play in the U20 World Cup and they will remain with Massimiliano Allegri’s first-team squad.

However, this is not something that is too much of a shock because other clubs too have chosen to withhold their players from flying off for the tournament. The World Cup will take place from September 27 to October 19 in Chile.

Both players needed?

Fortunately, tests performed on Mike Maignan after the calf problem he suffered against Bologna on Sunday have ruled out any injuries, but the French goalkeeper will certainly miss Saturday’s league match against Udinese and Wednesday’s Coppa Italia match against Lecce.

While Pietro Terracciano will likely be in goal in Udine, it’s possible that Torriani could play in the cup game a few days later given that he is at present the deputy goalkeeper, at least until Maignan is back.

In addition to that, Strahinja Pavlovic’s muscle issue means that Bartesaghi jumps a spot in the temporary pecking order. Another problem in the rearguard could see him get the nod at left centre-back.

  1. Just let them go. They hardly get a kick. Even with eleven injuries, no Milan youth player will ever be given a proper chance.

They should be pushing to leave Milan entirely. If I were their agent, I know that’s what I’d be doing
