CM: Milan not worried about Liverpool interest in Bennacer despite clause and renewal distance

AC Milan are not worried by the rumours of interest from Liverpool and are hoping to agree a renewal with Ismael Bennacer soon, a report claims.

According to a report from Calciomercato.com, the €50m release clause that was inserted into Bennacer’s contract at the time of his arrival from Empoli back in 2019 has conditions that do not allow it to be exercised in the last days of the transfer market.

That allows Milan the ability to sit around a table to negotiate with the clubs interested in Bennacer without having to worry about one of them simply triggering the clause with a €50m over.

Liverpool have shown interest in the last few days but that ‘does not scare’ Milan because they consider the Algeria international to be not for sale and therefore he will remain at the centre of the project and the plans of Stefano Pioli.

For some time Maldini and Massara have been trying to secure a renewal but meetings with his agent Moussa Sissoko did not lead to an agreement. Milan want to extend the deadline well beyond the current June 2024 and have proposed a renewal with a €3m net per season salary.

That offer is considered too low with a request of €4m per year submitted as a counter. There is distance, but also room for negotiation and soon there will be new meetings, because Bennacer is fundamental and central to the plans.
