This morning, AC Milan have reportedly made an offer to sign Dani Olmo, but the deal could face criticism due to the structure.
It is no secret that Barcelona are currently struggling massively, and Milan could offer the giants a way out of their current problems. At present, the Blaugrana are unable to sign Olmo due to the registration rules, with officiating parties seemingly not budging either.
For this reason, a loan deal – which is what the Rossoneri initially were considering – would not be possible, with him still technically not a Barcelona player. So, the Diavolo have conjured a new way of working a deal.
Instead of a loan, Milan would sign the ‘free agent’ on a six-month deal, according to Corriere della Sera (via Milan Eye). Following the expiration of this, the midfielder would then return to Catalonia to re-sign with his current club, who would presumably be in a better situation than they are at present.
The Guardian states that the midfielder costs Barcelona €21 million per season, so whether the Rossoneri would agree to a contract on similar terms remains to be seen, but one would imagine it would have to be a much, much lower figure for a deal to go ahead.
He he he ‘to help barcelona’ 😈
What a stupid deal. Why not buy him permanently. He can cancel his contract and become a free agent and sign for any club now. Smh
Probably Olmo have agreement with Barcelona in this case. They know that problems can occur.
Milan only shouldn’t pay huge salary because of short term option.
“It has been suggested that the midfielder earns ~€20 million per season in Spain” Wtf olmo is good but 20m is crazy
Athletes salaries have been crazy for quite some time now. Especially in football.
Whoever wrote that didn’t take 30 seconds to check out how much he actually earns.
4.5M base + 1M bonus. Net.
9.3M base + 2M bonus. Gross
Basically he costs barca 11.4M and that’s nowhere near 20M.
Also, since the contract would be for half a year it would be half that salary.
Ideally we’d get Olmo for 6 months on 5M gross salary.
Still, seems like a waste imao. Before he gets integrated and all that he’s back in Barcelona. Doubt he’d be a plug and play since we don’t have a system or anything atm.
If he could help us finish in the TOP4, the loan deal would be worth it. Financially and on the pitch. Win-win.
Don’t quite quick to believe all this….
if Milan can sigh him as a free agent for 6 months to help Barca. Why can’t they just sign him on free transfer for 4yrs with lower salary and maybe them send him to barca on loan with option or obligation to buy for a certain amount ?
My thought.
Uh, haven’t you read about how Olmo wants to play for Barcelona? It’s why he gave them six months to figure this out already. He could have cancelled the contract and signed for anyone else months ago. Free agents don’t have to wait for transfer windows.
Cause He has Agreement and maybe personally fehlt obligation.
And that insane salary is why they can’t register him! In any case, I doubt it’s true.
His salary is not 20 mln, it is around 10 mln. For 5 mln (the salary for half the season) I would get him without thinking twice. He can score goals and play as a winger, AM and even CM.
Well Inter should get him, Milan doesn’t need him.
I would be happy if Inter took him.
Non fa senso. Faccio sedere un giocatore nostro per far giocare un giocatore del Barca 🫣
Bring him in.
I would take him all day in the short-term. He would give us the best chance of qualifying for European football.
I don’t really think so, he doesn’t even have space in this team. Realistically his best position would be to replace Leao, Pulisic or Reijnders. If there is a DM that is free for 6 months Milan should go for it. Another AM or LW is completely unnecessary for this team.
How about they sign a player that will stay at Milan? Olmo is a great player but the chance was missed when Eliott refused to sanction that transfer fee + agent fee when he was joining RB. Game over. I wouldn’t take anyone on a 6 month deal for no reason. Milan players look like they never played together, a new player that will leave after 6 months is the last thing this team needs.
Agreed, signing a player for six months that probably really doesn’t want to be here plus paying him more than most established players would have little benefit and probably destroy morale/chemistry worse than it already is. Better to try to build team chemistry and learn the new system with players that are committed to us and want to play here long term.
we sign him on a free to bolster our squad for 6 months. if he likes milan he’ll be free to re-sign with us. seems like a great move
No wonder Barca are in trouble – 21m is ridiculous..
