Sky: Milan to pass €150m in sales with Thiaw’s Newcastle move – how much they have spent

AC Milan are about to complete another big sale with Malick Thiaw heading to Newcastle United, taking the proceeds past a new landmark.

As Sky report, the summer started with the sale of Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester City for a guaranteed €55m (plus bonuses). It continued with the €25m brought in by Theo Hernandez’s move to Al-Hilal.

Then there are the departures of Emerson Royal, Pierre Kalulu, and Alvaro Morata which will bring in over €30m. Thiaw will soon to move to Newcastle, also adding to the list of exits, and meaning Milan will be able to count on a nest egg of over €150m, earned thanks to the summer sales.

In terms of spending so far, Luka Modric and Pietro Terracciano were free transfers. Samuele Ricci came for €23m from Torino, Ardon Jashari for €36m from Club Brugge and Pervis Estupinan for €17m from Brighton.

That means €76m has been spent in transfer fees so far, less than half what has been earned. Koni De Winter should be next for €20m, with a right-back and a striker expected to conclude the window. However, fans are right to demand further investment in the team, given the money brought in.

  1. “However, fans are right to demand further investment in the team, given the money brought in.”

Fans aren’t right to demand anything, €30 million from those sales wipes out the debts so there isn’t €60 million to play with, there’s around €30 million, nor are the club under any obligation to spend all that money. Now if Musah is sold, that money would go on a striker and right bank and the rest would be banked, which is good business practise.

    1. So fans fault that the club finished 8th? 🤣🤣 Fans are completely right to ask for reinvestment of 100% of the funds after 8th position in serie A. I think you have to be special to think otherwise.

      1. Fans can ask for whatever they want till they turn blue in the face. But we’re run by an investment fund which puts gains first. It would be mad to expect them to reinvest each dollar they bring in. Never gonna happen.

      2. Fans who cannot count can make all the demands they want. It’s clear this management aren’t about to put the club back in debt. It would be stupid of them to invest 100% of sales given €30 million was to cover debts. You do know how that works, right? If you spend more than you earn, you get into debt. You should change your name to simple, because everything has to be explained to you.

    2. yeah! we win the financial scudetto again! Great work, now lets raise ticket and jersey prices again…and brag how great we are on the balance sheet! Oh well, we don’t have to worry about financial fair play giving us a 1 year ban on europe.

      1. If you spend more than you earn, you get into debt. What exactly are you complaining about, you absolute plank? The squad has been improved, players who weren’t performing have been moved on. It has been a brilliant mercato.

    3. LOL this kid uberhulk either works for Redbird or beats off to Gerry posters at night. Likely does both. GROSS. Never have I seen a “fan” so concerned with what an owner spends as if it was his own $$$. Terrible.

Unfortunately I have said many times, we will never spend ALL the $$ from player sales and some will be put in the pockets for the investors. This is the Redbird model. This is why we are after Hollund, cheap 6M loan with no obligation to buy. Gotta keep at least 50M or more to pay off the debt so 2028 sale is clean.

Remains to be seen if all these replacement players will be enter than the ones we had. At least we have a winning caliber coach now. Fingers crossed

      1. You don’t understand commerce. You do know that one of the reasons the club was sold by Berlusconi is because they were losing money? Intelligent, mature fans are obviously concerned about the financial health of the club, so as to avoid the mess left by the Chinese. Your claims about the investors pocketing money are beyond embarrassing. That would have shown up in the accounts. Stop peddling conspiracy theories. That’s the type of crap people educated in mud huts come up with. You’re embarrassing yourself and exposing your lack of education.

  2. When we talk about disproportions between clubs and leagues – in order to be able to afford a top class striker like Wirtz, you need to sell half of Milan’s first squad from last season, because even Theo+Tiji+Thiaw are sold combined for less (bearing in mind Thiaw and Theo were good deals considering their latest results and all else).

  3. Selling Kalulu was a huge mistake, idk why nobody saw but he was really good for us rarely makes any mistakes gives his all everytime. His highs are probably not world class but what makes him world class is that his low is really high he never underpreforms and he was the pivot of the back in the scudetto season.

    1. He was injured too much but I agree. He was good.
The management is all about numbers but they don’t understand how to sell properly.

Kalulu’s buy option should’ve been set much higher.
Reijnders was a bargain for one of the richest clubs in the world.

If Kalulu and Reijnders were Atalanta players they would have gotten 120-130 million for them.

  4. Us funds wants money.

Reijnders and Kalulu sale went to 2024 2025 account year. That means for season 2025 2026, loss revenue from UCL can be only gained by players sales from that year or reduces of loses.

Some of loses they reduced by removing Emerson Royal, and sending some players on loan, but only capital gain will be 20 million from Hernandez and now around 30 million from Thiaws sale.

Probably American are not going to see account in red for next season. So either one more sale is going to happen for around 20 million of capital gain or they will reduce costs side by not investing too much on ammortisations and players salaries.

    1. lazetic sold for free with 50% resale, colombo sold or loaned out and pobega loaned out with option to buy for 8mil
