Repubblica: Maldini a personal admirer of 21-year-old Atalanta centre-back

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are still in the market for a new centre-back and they are keeping tabs on an Atalanta starlet, according to a report.

According to a report from La Repubblica, Atalanta’s start to the new season – in which they have racked up 21 points in 9 matches and are second place in the table – did not go unnoticed by domestic and international talent scouts.

Many teams have sent observers to watch the Bergamo side in action to watch some of their young talents, among whom is midfielder Giorgio Scalvini. Chelsea and Manchester City are watching him closely, while Roma, Juventus and Inter have already taken the first steps to strike up a negotiation with Atalanta, who at the moment have no intention of selling.

Caleb Okoli has been included in the starting XI by Gian Piero Gasperini after his year on loan at Cremonese, and he is very much liked by Milan. Paolo Maldini has personally watched the central defender – who is 21 years old – in action, while waiting for signals from the new ownership regarding his budget.

  1. That’s an expensive, overinflated store Maldini is trying to shop from. You won’t get him on loan with a 10 mil buy option. They will probably ask for 30-40 mil. And Atalanta players usually flop once they leave Bergamo.
    Look somewhere else Paolo

  2. thought we are looking for a left footed cb, ‘cuz we havent one. But guess not. We just bought Thiaw, maybe wait and see how he integrates before scouting more talent. #getKiwior

  3. Kiwior is definitely the one I would put my money on. He was real steel during nations league in international break for Poland…a perfect left footer loved his long balls perhaps a bit shaky with passing but well he is a real talent though anxious to see Thiaw shows up…..but after world cup his price will triple and as usual we might be priced out.

  4. Maldini and Pioli should be shame
    Beloti was for free
    Dybala for free
    Romanjoli went down to 3,5
What is wrong with those guys
    They bought some Oringi.
    Shame

    1. Pioli has nothing to do with this. Maldini has got his hands tied up too… Tho he made a horrible transfer (Origi).
The management lack funds and the new owner needs to do something about it ASAP.

      1. if Pioli had given assurances that he would rotate players, Maldini would have maintained Romagnioli, but the coach never insisted on his need for the player, hence the pursuit of botman, Pioli never gives players enough time to play, always insisting on his trusted players like Messias, krunic, salaemakers, if traore wasn’t the only available option, would he have scored, pple always defend Pioli by saying fans don’t watch trainings, why did gabbia play well, was it not at those trainings that they insisted on dropping him on the bench? our players are good all round and can only get better when given playing time and slotted in right formations, Thiaw, bakayoko, vranckx, Adli, lazetic etc can all play well when brought in to blend with the team for few minutes in matches,
