Sky: Pioli’s selection choices ahead of Juventus game getting clearer but key doubt remains

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan face a huge test on Sunday night when they face a resurgent Juventus side at San Siro and some team news has begun to emerge.

Sky reports that the good news for Stefano Pioli is that Alessio Romagnoli will be back into the starting line-up, with the Italian returning after his absence over the past couple of weeks due to Covid. He trained yesterday at Milanello and with Tomori and Kjaer injured, he will definitely start against Juventus and is likely to partner Pierre Kalulu over Matteo Gabbia.

Theo Hernandez will be the left-back while Alessandro Florenzi is the favourite to get the on the right as he is still ahead of Davide Calabria from a condition point of view. Sandro Tonali returns and Ismael Bennacer could actually end up on the bench if Algeria get eliminated from AFCON today.

The biggest doubt at the moment concerns the attack and whether Rade Krunic or Brahim Diaz will be the centre-back behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The choice regarding wingers is not mentioned in the article.

  1. Krunic as CAM? Ooof no thanks
Why not either Messias or Rebic?

Leao LW, Messias/Rebic CAM, Salae RW
    Striker put in Giroud.

Eventually sub in Brahim CAM or RW. Sub in either messias/rebic for RW. Striker Ibra final 30 mins

    1. With all due respect for Giroud – who bags the occasional header – Zlatan still offers way more to the attack. But I´m all for playing them together in a 4-2-4 and dropping Diaz.

      1. With 442/424 we play longball style just like against spezia and they control the game in the last 25mins or so. a poor tactics by mr.pioli

      2. Zlatan may have more talent, but has no mobility or stamina. Pioli would capitalize on entering him in the last 30 minutes when defenders are tired. Giroud or Rebic should start before him.
Messias can play CAM. He can dribble, pass, draw cards, and consistently shoots on frame. Sadly, even Rebic is better than current Diaz.

        1. * even Krunic is better than current Diaz.

Magnian; Calabria, Kalulu, Romagnoli, Hernandez; Tonali, Krunic; Rebic, Messias, Leao; Giroud

    2. Agree. With all due respect ibra is still good he made alot of chances however his executions is poor, thats why he cant score on penalties anymore. And when he play the other member seem to get confused and make turnovers many2 time

    3. Disagree. What is it with people asking for Messias to play CAM? He was brought in as an offensive alternative to Alexis, who produces very little going forward, and so that’s where he needs to play. I think Brahim needs to continue to be given the opportunity to rediscover form as ultimately this will be the most effective lineup over the continually unproductive Saelemaekers.

      1. The talk about Messias as CAM i think is mostly because he can dribble and is physical. Brahim is lacking the physical. I am hoping Saelamaekers performs as he did vs Spezia he had some shots on target.
I agree Brahim needs the opportunity to improve but we keep seeing he gets bullied.

  2. Rebic in the center versus Diaz. Designated names for positions is overstated, You get that close to the goal everybody becomes pretty much equal, I think in Specia game Sael. had the most shots on goal as an example, Rebic is strong with his back to goal, good with both feet, turn on a dime, tough son of a bitch as well. We have to be the bullys for once and ouy muscle them. San Siro is our turf, defend it.
