CM: Milan’s plan for Gabbia changes while Maldini searches for the right opportunity

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are re-evaluating their strategy for the centre-back department having crossed a target off their list, according to a report.

Calciomercato.com report that the signing of Charles De Ketelaere from Club Brugge for a deal worth a total of €35m was the big signing of the summer, but now Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara must complete the squad while waiting for some opportunities to be seized in the last days of the transfer market.

A new centre-back is wanted, but Abdou Diallo of PSG is no longer on the wish list despite the repeated links over the past few weeks. Instead, the directors are continuing to evaluate Japhet Tanganga of Tottenham and Evan N’Dicka from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Matteo Gabbia – for whom Sampdoria had shown great interest – is now expected remain under the orders of Stefano Pioli at least until January as he is useful for the squad list and adds much-needed cover.

The report concludes by stating that the if the right conditions for a new signing do not arise, the club could stall and decide to remain as they are in that area.
