TMW: Milan readying player-plus-cash deal to beat competition for Udinese star

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan could offer up a player-plus-cash deal to secure the signing of midfield target Lazar Samardzic from Udinese, a report claims.

TuttoUdinese (part of the TMW network) report that director Paolo Maldini is at work trying to strengthen the squad available to Stefano Pioli ahead of next season and qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Champions League has brought in some extra revenue to work with.

The target they have in mind is Udinese’s Samardzic who has racked up four goals and two assists in the role of playmaker so far this season, but he has also been used as a box-to-box midfielder too.

Juventus, Inter, Roma and several German teams have kept him in their sights but Milan plan to beat the competition by offering cash plus a player in the deal to reach the €15m asking price, with Daniel Maldini seen as an appealing profile by the Friulians.

  1. Thought Maldini, being a legacy, would get a proper shot at the team but Milan really doesnt like home grown players

    1. Another player who will sit on the bench watching Krunic on the field for one of the club’s most exciting prospects (I think even Leao said Maldini was the most talented player).
With Leao probably and Rebic hopefully leaving there will be opportunities on the left side for Maldini.

    2. I love the idea of him following his father step, but the most important thing for him right now is to play.
One thing I see as his main problem is that it’s unclear what his best position is. He’s an attacking player surely, but he’s neither a winger nor a striker. He’s simply too balanced, without any outstanding characteristic yet.

      1. He’s an AM or a CM. Would fit well if we actually ran a 3 man mid like we should and played the CM role with a license to get forward.

        1. Lol. That doesn’t approve your claim about Milan doesn’t like homegrown players 🤣

The FACT is they are in the first team and they also got enough playing times either as starter or sub. Calabria and Gabbia in the first squad for like 4-5 seasons where in the last season Calabria and Gabbia played a lot and made contributions for Milan scudetto. And this season Pobega finally stay in the first team and he packed a couple of good goals.

Not to mention a couple of Primaveras such as Coubis and Traore already showed their talents and could be stay in the first squad in the future.

          1. it does prove it… Milan been selling the young, again and again and again. They been trying to get rid of Calabria for years. He survived somehow for now.. The only reason he is the captian is because he has been in the team the longest. Wanna guess who is the second longest? Yeah, its Theo

      1. Pobega & Gabbia aren’t even getting leftover minutes in the last moments of the matches. They’ve been benched permanently.

        1. Lol when they played, you and some people in here are crying and moaning asking Pioli not to played them.

What you write doesn’t approve the theory about Milan doesn’t like homegrown players.

          1. “Lol when they played, you and some people in here are crying and moaning asking Pioli not to played them. ”

Why the bs? I have NEVER said not to play Pobega. That’s just hardcore BS. Don’t go putting words in my mouth – especially something I’ve never said.

“What you write doesn’t approve the theory about Milan doesn’t like homegrown players.”
So… Are you implying that they are loved by the club & coaches and therefore they’re NOT getting any minutes? Your logic makes zero sense. Just read veeeeeeeeeeeeeery slowly what I said. Read it again. And again. And once more. Maybe then you’ll figure out that the two homegrown players aren’t getting ANY MINUTES AT ALL and there’s your proof how “the club reeeeally loves homegrown players”. 😀

        2. “So… Are you implying that they are loved by the club & coaches and therefore they’re NOT getting any minutes?”

If the club and Pioli didn’t like them then why Pioli and Maldini didn’t loan or sell Pobega, Gabbia, and Calabria? You’re not making any sense here.

          “Your logic makes zero sense”

That’s YOU who’s making zero sense lol.

“Maybe then you’ll figure out that the two homegrown players aren’t getting ANY MINUTES AT ALL and there’s your proof how “the club reeeeally loves homegrown players”

You obviously didn’t watch any Milan matches this season.

Next you gonna say the club and Pioli didn’t love Tonali because he didn’t start against Salernitana lol.

          1. “You obviously didn’t watch any Milan matches this season.”

I’ve watched every match and every minute of them for the last 5-7 years I think.

So, do tell me… How many minutes has Gabbia & Pobega played this year? Zero? Zero! That gives a clear picture how much they’re appreciated.

  2. A 3 man midfield like we freaking should.? Even Maldini snr echoed it in an interview. Can someone please shout this into stiff Pioli’s ear !? I dont mean any ill fate, but since injuries seem to be the only time mister changes anything, i hope players get injured such that the only players available forces him to play 3 man MF. A regista with 2 infront.

  3. I would rather see Tommaso Baldanzi in Milan then any other player.

And would not let Maldini go anywhere but maybe for a loan for one more season.

  4. The article doesn’t say that Milan is even considering Maldini as part of the deal.

It says Maldini is an appealing profile for Udinese (i.e. the sources for this article is saying it from Udinese’s perspective).

If 4 goals and 2 assists in 27 appearances (970 minutes) is the benchmark, I suggest people watch Maldini’s second half against Inter from a few days ago. That player would have no trouble matching the scoring involvements. Maldini only has 383 minutes from his 13 appearances this year.

  5. Daniel Maldini is average at best. Right now he’s only suited to lower level teams. He needs to really prove himself out on loan in order to get a place in the Milan squad. After our performance against Salernitana and many other poor performances this season, we really need to focus on improving the quality throughout the team and he is not the answer for the here and now.
