Photos: Milan players react to Udinese win on social media – “This is our mentality”

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan managed to grab their first win away at Udinese since 2020 on Saturday evening, scoring the winner in the 93rd minute after a dramatic comeback. Unfortunately, the result was overshadowed by disgraceful incidents in the stands, as highlighted by the players.

Shortly after Milan’s open goal, which was scored by Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the game was halted for around five minutes because of racist chants directed at Mike Maignan. Play eventually resumed, but Milan and the goalkeeper were clearly affected by the incidents.

Therefore, in their social media posts, the Rossoneri players made sure to highlight something that is much more important than the result. The issues with racism in Serie A must come to an, end serious action must be taken by the league.

The reactions

Maignan: “It was not the player who was attacked. It was the man. A father of the family. This isn’t the first time this has happened to me, and I’m not the first player to experience it.

“We have made press releases, advertising campaigns, and protocols but nothing has changed. Today, an entire system must take its responsibilities:

“The perpetrators of these acts, because it is easy to act in a group, in the anonymity of a forum. The spectators who were in the stand, who saw everything, who heard everything but who chose to remain silent, you are complicit.

“The Udinese club, which only spoke of an interruption of the match, as if nothing had happened, you are complicit. The authorities and the prosecutor, with everything that is happening, if you do nothing, YOU WILL ALSO BE COMPLICIT.

“I have already told you and if it bears repeating: I’m not a VICTIM. And I want to say thank you to my club AC Milan, to my teammates, to the referee, to the Udinese players and to everyone who sent me messages, who called me, who supported me privately and publicly. I can’t answer everyone but I see you and we are TOGETHER.

“It is a difficult fight, which will take time and courage. But it’s a fight we will win”

  1. This is a sad societal problem that transcends borders, and I am especially proud of the members of the team acting so mature and strongly against racism. Hatred has no place in the sport and society as a whole.

I stand with Mike! His letter was written with a backdrop of pain and hurt. No one should suffer like him and others.

Italy and all of Europe has to do better. Set an example and be better. If this involves a change in government then that is what needs to be done. Italy’s current government is a joke and basically does nothing.

  2. is there any official statement from the club/ owner about this issue.. players, other players, opposition even judas gigio care about it,
or may be this is too small compare to loan payment issue..
