AC Milan have held talks with Mauricio Pochettino about the head coach role and they have offered him some incentives.

Pochettino is currently the head coach of the United States, who he will lead out for a home World Cup in just a couple of weeks. In the past 24 hours, there has been a lot of speculation about him joining Milan, with a meeting having taken place in Georgia last week.

While speaking to journalists on Thursday, the former Spurs and Chelsea boss denied having been involved in the talks himself but he seemed to imply that his representatives were, as is natural given that his deal runs out after the tournament.

Milan offer investment

ESPN report that their sources have confirmed that Pochettino is one of several candidates with whom Milan have spoken. It is also not to be ruled out that he remains with the US national team if things go well this summer.

They add that the Rossoneri’s acting management have held talks with Antonio Conte, who has announced that he is leaving Napoli. Outgoing Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola was spoken to but has turned it down, while Austria coach Ralf Rangnick is another name.

Interestingly, the report adds the following: “Sources told ESPN that Milan plan to invest heavily in youth as well as building a competitive squad and that this type of project appeals to Pochettino.”

  1. Nobody else wants him so he is coming to Milan eh. We have seen this story with Fonseca and Conceicao, nobody wanted them at the time. Failure is guaranteed.

    1. Well Fonseca is highly appreciated I believe in his current club – still hard to compare OL with Milan. But his Milan played better football than Allegri’s Milan, and I believe Allegri had a better squad.

Conceicao is in the money league, so I can’t really say anything there…

If Conte comes I will take a sabbatical and wait for the yet another project. Poche… to me is the wildest decision though considering all the names..

      1. I’m not sure it’s a “decision” at this point, given how all those other names don’t seem interested in coach AC Milan.

      2. Seems like the only option, not a decision. Everyone else said no. They are now going to push some PR articles how good this loser is. Literal loser manager Pochettino is the best choice?

  2. It was like a relief when they fired “the crew” but then you realize it’s going to be the same ol same old. Don’t think much is going to change because the organization takes its cue from the head.

  3. “Invest heavily in youth”. Somehow this sentence does not sit well with me. Isn’t it just to buy young players with the only goal of trying to cash in on them if they make it. Doesn’t sound like a Champion club to me, rather like something like Atalanta. always selling their best players and can never really become great. Always in the building phase :Þ

    Hope I am wrong though

  4. This is the same as giving Ibrahimovic the power to decide the next manager. You don’t give Ferrari keys to a guy that never drove it, he’ll probably wreck it. Pochettino failed at his last 2 jobs, USA I won’t count as fail as they’re clueless with or without him. He had success at Tottenham, where 4th spot is like you won the Premier League, and that was because Tottenham had a few world class youngsters, he didn’t bring them in or develop them, just were there.

  5. It blows my mind how I’ll prepared these people are… The swiftly terminate four people in a manner that suggests that perhaps they had a plan of replacements ready to go …

A week basically drags on and the names change so swiftly that you realize there was never an actual plan. Especially since they are doing everything a$$ backwards – coach first, then figure out a TD, SD, CEO …

And if they are trying to find coaches that play aggressive vertical football, which is what Pioli kind of did, which then they went away from to a more possession based football of Fonseca, then whatever Conceicao was supposed to be, then what was the point of this whole cycle? Especially since the move away from Pioli was Ibra’s idea to begin with …

Just a completely clueless ownership …

  6. Pochettino is a terrible option. An average at best manager hyped by the English media. It’s not so much what he did at Tottenham in his first few seasons, it’s his last 2 seasons where he couldn’t get them over the line, also at PSG. Just like Fonseca he will fail.
The bar is honestly low at Milan given what happened last 2 seasons.
Xavi, Sarri and Italiano are much better options.

    1. Agreed, but he will probably embarass himself in the next few weeks so that should end this idiotic interest.

  7. Fonseca didn’t fail. He wasn’t given enough time to implement his philosophy and ideas. I can bet you that if Fonseca was on touch line for Cagliari match, we wouldn’t be having this argument. Even Concecaio would have won that match. It was clear to all and sundry that Allegri’s 3-5-2 system was bound to fail. Milan is not Inter.
