AC Milan are back in Serie A action at San Siro on Sunday night as they welcome Roma in the final game of 2024, and Paulo Fonseca is working towards selecting his team.
Milan will close out the calendar year with a game against a Roma side that have had a season with far more downs than ups. They have already had three head coaches, with Claudio Ranieri following Ivan Juric and Daniele De Rossi.
As MilanNews report, there will be a number of absences for Fonseca to deal with. Alessandro Florenzi, Luka Jovic, Yunus Musah, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Noah Okafor, Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic are all battling issues, even if the American is expected to at least make the bench.
Alex Jimenez should start as a left winger in place of Rafael Leao. The left-back spot will then be covered by Theo Hernandez, who should return to the starting line-up after starting the last two games against Genoa and Verona on the bench.
The Frenchman should complete the back four in front of Mike Maignan made up of Emerson Royal, Malick Thiaw and Matteo Gabbia. Filippo Terracciano and Youssouf Fofana are down as the midfield double pivot, with Samuel Chukwueze and Alvaro Morata on the right wing and up front respectively.
Predicted Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Emerson Royal, Gabbia, Thiaw, Hernandez; Fofana, Terracciano; Chukwueze, Reijnders, Jimenez; Abraham.

OR, how about we give more of the youth a chance, and play Jimenez on his prefered side at RB? Instead of clownseca continuing to start the worst right back in our history…what is this fools obsession with Emerson, i need an explanation. Is it just hoping an praying he becomes less garbage because they won’t admit he was a horrible idea…?

lol. I would honestly take dest over Emerson. I’ve never seen a player with such a poor technique and positioning for a defender. Dreadful.
Calabria is another example. Bonera also played RB at some point btw.
People are just hating him for the sake of it, mob mentality and all. He is mediocre at attacking, sure, but he’s still our best RB. Fonseca is no Pep Guardiola, but he’s not that clueless.
Yeah Bonera was so bad he played 36 times when we won the Champions League and got 16 caps for our country. You know very little Bonera was one of the best defenders in Serie A throughout the 2000’s. He only narrowly missed out on a spot in the world cup side when they selected Zaccardo over him who is much worse than Bonera.
So is it Morata or Abraham? You write that it’s Morata up front, and then you have Abraham in the predicted XI. That’s one way to not be wrong…
Personally I would play Abraham up top and Morata behind him.
I would prefer morata as number 10 and abraham as central.

With Jimenez, should always be expected that our left flank, should be more quality defensively. Thats why more space should be in the middle Morata – Abraham. Unfortunatelly, without Pulisic, our right flank is low quality.

Can we just drop Royal? What is going on here? Why is h untouchable? Play Jimenez at RB and Theo at LB.
Because he is the best RB we have at the moment. It’s that simple. Coaches generally put out the players that give them the best chance of winning. If there was a better option he would be playing him. And Royal has actually played pretty well the last few games but people have already decided they want to hate him for a number of reasons.
I can’t wait until Florenzi is back. We do so much better with him on the field. Whether it’s in place of Royal or Chukwueze, we need him back.
Florenzi is not expected to return until may.
He’ll get a farewell appearance and that’s that. Since his contract is ending in 2025
My opinion, Fonseca should give Emerson some rest too. Put Jimenez as the rb, theo as lb. Maintain the central defenders of Gabbia n Thiaw,. Play fofana an tijn as double pivot. Try chaka traore on the lw, morata as no. 10 , chukuweze as rw and Abraham as st. Changes later.
