Now that Jean-Philippe Mateta has not arrived, AC Milan appear ready to turn back towards Dusan Vlahovic.
With the winter transfer window now over and the Mateta deal off, it’s time for Milan to turn the page and start looking at potential summer striker options. One of the frontrunners will be Vlahovic, whose contract with Juventus is expiring.

Calciomercato.com write that currently there are no meetings scheduled to discuss a renewal, and the parties are still far from reaching an agreement. The striker and his agent can also hold discussions with other clubs in the coming months and are free to sign with them for 2026-27.
Milan ready to pounce
Vlahovic on a free transfer is tempting for many clubs, and Milan are closely monitoring any developments. Massimiliano Allegri’s presence in Milan could have a significant impact on the player’s decision, with the Italian having already coached him, while Igli Tare is at work with his agent.
Before deciding whether to sign Vlahovic, however, Milan will need to reorganize an attack that currently features Santiago Gimenez, Christian Pulisic, Rafael Leao, Christopher Nkunku and Niclas Fullkrug (who arrived in January on loan with an option to buy for €5m).
A move abroad can’t be ruled out, as the Premier League has a different level of financial resources and could more easily accommodate the player’s salary (and commission) demands. Newcastle and Chelsea have already inquired about the potential costs of the deal.
Vlahovic’s current salary is €12m net (approximately €22.2m gross), a significant figure compared to Milan’s internal limit, where the highest earners are Leao and Mike Maignan, who earn around €7m.

If he wasn’t willing to come to Milan over the summer, he isn’t going to go to Milan next summer when many teams around Europe can offer him much more money.
It seems like it wasn’t about the lack of willingness from him but Milan not willing to pay what Juventus wanted at least that was part of the media reports at the time. Salary might be a stumbling block but I definitely believe we should try to see if there is an option to sign him. Even if he wants a hefty sign on fee the player is nevertheless arriving on a free transfer and he probably is the best opportunity somewhat within our means.
It was reported that Juventus was willing to sell him for around 20 mil, they were desperate to get him and his salary of their books. He didn’t want to leave and lose his 12 mil a year even though he was told that he won’t be a starter.
That transfer didn’t happen because Vlahovic wanted to get paid 12 million for 1 more year even if it meant not playing much.
The man likes his money, which is his right, but that’s why he won’t be coming to Milan in the summer, unless Milan is actually the team that offers him the most money.
It was also reported that they wanted 35 mil.
Well he might like his money but at that point we can offer him 7 mil a year and a sign on fee of 20-25-30 mil for what I care, problem solved. And we wont get any better player for that money that would equally fit Allegris style better so I don’t even care if that is the way to circumvent or salary limits.
All summer long the reports were 20-25 milion. Juventus even wanted to buy him out of his contract just so they can get him of their books.
The transfer to Milan didn’t happen because of Vlahovic, had nothing to do with Juventus and their asking price.
Milan spent 40 mil on Nkunku, so even if Juventus wanted 35, as you claim, Milan could have still bought Vlahovic.
Milan this month was willing to spend 30-35 mil on Mateta who had 6 months more on the contract than Vlahovic did on his over the summer, so even the 35 milion Juventus asking price wouldn’t have stopped Milan from signing Vlahovic. What stopped them was his salary.
Mateta was going to be paid 3.5 mil , while Nkunku gets 5.

You’re making sense. It also implies that we’re not actually going to go for him this summer, unless he greatly reduces his demands, which is unlikely. It’s why they were looking at Mateta now. Anyone saying we were going to sign Mateta now and Vlahovic in the summer is crazy. It was always only going to be Mateta with Gimenez as his backup. The rest is clickbait.
Also applies to Osimhen, as I’ve seen a few comments pop up about how “we could have signed Osimhen with the Nkunku and Gimenez money”. Osimhen is getting paid 15M by Galatassaray.
Well I remember 35 mil also being mentioned early on but I’m not saying there hasn’t been varying reports either.
Well each transfer can be judged differently from case to case and the club might just not wanna pay such sum for a player with an expiring contract.
Matetas contract doesn’t expire this summer but in 2027 so that is not really a valid point there.
In the end I’m not saying he will arrive but there is ways to circumvent the salary cap but in the end it also depends on which player returns after his recent injury.
Vlaho in true fashion will go to the PL to chase the paycheck. Milan sure as sh!t won’t pay him anywhere close to what Juve did or PL clubs will.
He is also not worth that money lol.
The top EPL clubs aren’t interested. He’s not going to a club to sit on the bench.
Dusan is a good player and I’d like to see him next season but I would take Kean.
