Milan president Scaroni urges fans to remain calm: “I am not afraid of a defeat at all”

AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has insisted that the alarm bells should not be ringing despite the fact the team are second in the table.

The Rossoneri didn’t do anything right in the game against Spezia on Saturday night, failing to register a shot on target or defend with their usual resilience as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat and surrendered top spot to Inter in the process.

That has caused somewhat of a panic among supporters who have seen the team lose to Juventus, Atalanta and now Spezia early in 2021, leading some to suggest that the team is not ready for a title fight.

Speaking to the microphones of Radio Rai, president Scaroni spoke about the current moment that the team are going through and did not hold back regarding his assessment.

“We at Milan do not get excited when we are first and we do not despair when we are second. We look ahead game after game trying to do our best: now we are going to Belgrade, then we will have the derby,” he said (via MilanNews).

“I am not afraid of a defeat at all. Overall, I am convinced that the climate at Milanello is excellent. Certainly the match against Spezia was a bit of a surprise for everyone, but I am very confident.

“We care a lot about the UEFA Cup [Europa League], then the derby will be a key moment. This week will tell us a lot about the future of the season. The league has never been so good, we are all having fun seeing a tight ranking. Inter, Milan and Juventus seem to be the favourites, but I don’t rule out surprises.”
