Newcastle United have been credited with renewed interest in Malick Thiaw, but AC Milan are expected to demand more to sell.
Matteo Moretto reported on Monday that Newcastle’s admiration for Thiaw remains standing, but Milan are no longer open to selling him for €25m as they were to Como. Instead, with Massimiliano Allegri keen to keep him, it would take €10m more at least.

Thiaw’s price resists
According to Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan), the Magpies have indeed turned back to Thiaw after abandoning the idea of signing Giorgio Scalvini from Atalanta, because of the asking price that La Dea have set.
Newcastle, the paper writes, would have to offer €35m plus bonuses (if not more) to convince Milan to sell the German. As mentioned, Allegri has made it clear that in an ideal world he would like to keep Thiaw, meaning that he has clearly made a mark in preseason.
In the event of him being sold, the Rossoneri would have to try and replace him quickly, and there is already a name in mind. That profile is Parma’s Giovanni Leoni, who the new coach holds in high regard but who also has a price tag out of reach without a big sale.

yes, Keep Thiaw. Thiaw may not be the best defender in Serie A or the world, but with our spending power, it’s hard to find a better defender quickly and affordably.

Thiaw is our best ball playing CB. He seems to be having a good preseason and is still young and already German international. 35m is a fair price but I don’t think leoni after half a season is worth 40m. If we want to sell thiaw we should upgrade and not pay for potential. Spend 40m on scalvini not leoni.

Thiaw is a dreadful defender, anything in the region of 25 million should be accepted without hesitation.

As you said the best CB for a club who end up 8th in Serie A, Thiaw is a good defender though a preseason is not enough neither a point of reference
At this point keep Thiaw unless a very large offer comes in, like 50M or more. We’re deep into preseason and even if it means we have the funds for Leoni, Parma will play hardball and make us use most of the Thiaw money for a player that is yet to justify his current 40M price tag. They’ll drag out the negotiations and make us pay 45M and we’ll have paid a premium for an unproven kid Who will join us with a week to go (or less) before our first official game. Too much risk for the moment. Leaving it for 2026 assuming CL qualification, the sale of whichever CB continues to disappoint this season, and Leoni’s price remaining somewhat reasonable.
No one is offering 50mil for Thiaw because he isn’t worth anywhere close to it. He is currently our best CB and selling him for the sake of a gamble on Leoni 0who also isn’t worth 40mil) makes zero sense…
If we are playing three at the back, keep Thiaw, and play him and Tomori either side of the more static and ever reliable Gabbia. Bartesaghi is clearly an inside left defender as well (definitely not an attacking wing back), so theres our young Italian – forget Leoni at that price.
If anyone doesn’t fit this back line it’s Pavlovic, who’s best work seems to be tidying up his own mess.
Keep Thiaw (obviously) and sign Leoni next summer when he’s figured out and worth less. I don’t believe he will be sold in this mercato.
The fact that our management accepted a bid of 25 mil from Como for Thiaw just tells us how incompetent they are at player valuations. Thank god Thiaw said no.
What kind of foundations are we basing thiaw on to suggest he is our best defender? Is it based on looks or something? Cuz he ain’t leading any statistics. Except own goals
Sell Tomori and buy Leoni, better to keep Thiaw for one more season under Allegri and hope he can reach his potential. Tomori only plays well next to an experienced defender to coach him on the pitch like Kjer did. Since he left Milan, Tomori has been poor.
Tomori has been poor? Not sure which games you’ve been watching. He did not have a great season, but he did have several solid games. And we’ve all seen him at hist best, which is quite frankly much higher level than Gabbia. Tell me this….Not one team is remotely interested in Gabbia this summer…not one! Do you know why? I do. Tomori is solidly in Allegri’s plans. if we have to sacrifice a defender it will/should not be Tomori.
