Milan Primavera clinched three very important points against Cagliari this afternoon, coming back from behind with a strong performance.
After the draw against Sassuolo last time out, which kept them in 14th place, Giovanni Renna headed into today’s game with the need to win to keep the play-offs chances alive. Despite a rough start, that’s exactly what they managed to do!
It took just six minutes for Cagliari top open the scoring, catching Milan off guard after winning the ball high up the pitch. In many ways, that acted as a wake-up call for the Rossoneri, although they had hit the post through Francesco Domniteti just a couple of minutes earlier.
Milan pushed for an equaliser after that goal and created a few decent chances, but instead, Cagliari came closer to a goal. The Sardinians countered and hit the bar in the 35th minute, leaving the Rossoneri with a lifeline as it could have been game over there and then.
It’s safe to say that Renna’s boys took that lifeline, as six minutes later, Domnitei created some space on the edge of the box and found the back of the net with a great strike. The post didn’t stop him that time, in other words.

In the second half, Milan continued to make life difficult for Cagliari as Domnitei hit the post again, this time with a header. Luckily, in the 67th minute, the Rossoneri were awarded a penalty after Filippo Scotti’s cross was deflected by a hand.
Scotti himself stepped up and made absolutely no mistakes, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to give Milan the 2-1 lead. It could and probably should have been even more, as the Cagliari goalkeeper made several great saves to keep the scores 2-1.
However, the most important thing was the win. With three games left of the season, Milan still have a chance of finishing in the top six, even if it remains an unlikely outcome.
