The transfer window is about to reopen, and AC Milan might well be busy in January as they look to strengthen their squad, namely in defence.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, there could be movement in terms of wingers because Okafor and/or Chukwueze could leave to make room for a new addition. Akliouche of Monaco is the profile that is liked the most, with Leweling of Stuttgart the first alternative.
Meanwhile, Fikayo Tomori sought after in Italy and abroad. If the Englishman were to leave, the Rossoneri would then need to fill a hole in the squad and the main name they have in mind is Cristhian Mosquera.
All depends on Tomori
The crux of the matter remains Tomori. The former Chelsea man has lost his starting spot in recent weeks, with Fonseca now seemingly set on giving constant faith to the Gabbia-Thiaw duo.
Tomori has accepted the reserve role without complaints, but it is clear that he cannot be happy with his current position at Milan because he knows he has to start to have a chance of getting back in the England squad.
Napoli have already made an inquiry and Juventus also like Tomori. The Milan directors want to sell abroad and it is above all Newcastle who have shown interest, while West Ham are keen too.
The asking price will be around €20-25m, and the 26-year-old central defender will have a say in where he goes too.
The replacement identified
As mentioned, Tomori’s departure would then force Milan to look for a replacement. The Rossoneri management already have a list of various profiles that have been followed in recent months. The idea was to invest in the summer, but it could be brought forward.
Mosquera at Valencia is a target, with the LaLiga side currently second-last in the table and at high risk of relegation. On the one hand, the Spanish club do not want to give up the young talent in order to chase the goal of survival, on the other there is the economic issue.
Their accounts are not in good shape and the sale of the defender would bring a bit of oxygen, while Mosquera’s current deal runs out in 2026 and he has no intention to renew. He would cost around €25m, and has a low salary.
Mosquera’s agent is Sergio Barila (who also represented Carlos Bacca), while relations between the clubs already exist following the deal for Yunus Musah in summer 2023.
Milan are so desperate to sign young players that they go for the worst players they can find (Cristhian Mosquera) what about huijsen he’s balling out in the premier league and at just 19 but plays like a very experienced player so he’s gonna have a bright future plus he’s 195 cm (1.95 meters, 6,4 feet) and he’s valued at about the same as crusthian Mosquera even though he’s way better
You have been moaning about that 6’4 dude in every comments. Is he related to you or what?
He is European. According to american woke policy they need diversity which means less European players.
I support you Daniel you are right.
I don’t get the attitude of these players nowadays. They play badly and deservedly get dropped from starting 11. Instead of fighting their way back they start looking for new clubs.
Well… To be honest, if they seek the easy way out, they’re not the type of players we need anyway.
To play the devil’s advocate a little bit, I think most of these players (and not only Milan players) were undeservedly dropped from the starting XI.
I don’t know what is in their minds, but they might think that the coach already decided that they’re not good enough and that the slightest mistake will get the out of the starting XI while the starter can play as badly as he likes and he’ll always be a starter.
Also, us being 8th doesn’t reinforce the trust between players and coach.
In short, I think the players feel that Fonseca is a clown who has no ideas what he does, and that it’s not their fault that they’re out of the starting XI.
Not that I agree with that attitude though.
Also if we can sell Tomori this winter for 25M€, we can use them to bring Frendrup or maybe even Ricci if we add a little more.
When referring to the “most of these players” at Milan, we’re only talking about 4 players at most. Leao, Theo, Tomori and Calabria. Leao was benched and then his form picked up dramatically. Mission accomplished. The same treatment is being given to Theo, he’s still sulking. Calabria was dropped for lack of ability, not form. We can all see this. The problem there is that his replacement is nit much better, but that has nothing to do with Calabria. Finally, Tomori lost his place to Gabbia or Thiaw. Take your pick. Both have been very good this season and are rightfully the starting CB pair. As a matter of fact, all things considered, defense hasn’t been the issue for the past month or so, it’s scoring goals actually. This is kind of flying under the radar, but we have the 5th best defense in the division if you go by goals conceded. Meanwhile our offense is sputtering, with no production coming from our strikers and Chukwueze, and Pulisic being first slightly off the boil and then injured. So: A. there have been no undeserved droppings from the starting 11, with Theo being the only significant current omission and with that omission being deserved, B. Despite most of the “droppings” being in defense, our issues right now are in attack.
Well said. Tomori is being benched deservedly as his performance level is far below Thiaw & Gabbia. One can always blame others for their drop of performance but usually the best place to look at is the mirror.
And I don’t think anyone has been dropped “undeservedly”. Leao WAS acting like a primadonna and his attitude is now million times better. Theo? He if anyone deserved to be benched really.
I should have stated that most of these players thought they were undeservedly dropped, I forgot to type “thought”. So yes, my mistake, sorry. But I think it should be noted that the coach isn’t well trusted.
Aside from that I more or less agree with you, your post is quite good and all the players you’ve named with the exception of Calabria deserved to be dropped.
Defensively we seem to have improved a bit and we do not concede a lot when Gabbia and Thiaw start together, but we have to notice that the new tactics Fonseca put in place made us completely incapable of scoring. At some point we had Musah, a defensive profile, as our RW. So basically the entire right flank was dead and Pulisic is pretty shy as an AM. Also this last month, we mostly played against teams which had no offensive abilities whatsoever, but we still saw how actually vulnerable we seem at times. So I don’t know how much our defense has actually improved.
When we use tactics that allow us to put pressure on the opposition, we end up conceding because we left too much space behind.
And overall we’re 8th.
It’s an issue with the entire “Gen Z” generation.
So they say. I’ll take people’s word for it. 🙂
Letting Tomori leave to Juve is the ULTIMATE DISPLAY OF COMPLETE INCOMPETENCE from this M0ronic management!
The only incompetence around here is your comment. Tonali went on to be banned for a year. WTF are you complaining about? Given one of the complaints about the previous management was losing our best players for nothing, the Tonali transfer was excellent business. If you’re blind to the decisions they get right, don’t bother commenting. Tonali was sold, Reijnders and Fofana have came into midfield and been excellent.
If going from 1st place to 8th is a good business for you than i dont know what to say. If you can’t figure out why that is bad you will def not figure out why selling Tomori to a direct competitor is bad. And yet you try to shame Milan4lyf.
Another Emerson-like waste of money and space.
More no names from other leagues. GTFO Moncada. We don’t need cover, Barteshagi can be back-up.
…back up to Tomori who is a CB?
Mosquera sure because Valencia need the money but I’ll add Kevin Danso
