Romano: ‘Here we go’ – Milan reach €30m agreement with Lazio for Gila’s arrival

This afternoon, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that AC Milan have agreed on the signing of Mario Gila from Lazio.

It has been a long process, but Milan finally have the first part of their defence through the door. Indeed, after days of suggestions that the Rossoneri were closing on a deal, they have finally gotten it over the line.

After a rejected bid yesterday – worth around €27 million – the club were always going to return to the table quickly. So, after a meeting with his agent this morning, Gila will now head to Casa Milan to sign a deal in the near future, with the deal all but done.

Here we go

According to Fabrizio Romano, the parties have now agreed a fee – whilst Amorim was at Milanello with Gerry Cardinale – with a verbal agreement now in place. Reports have suggested this to be around the €30m mark, a figure which Lazio didn’t want to move from.

The reasoning for this is because of the 50% owed to Real Madrid, agreed in his deal to join the Laziali in the first place – similar to Alex Jimenez’s move to Bournemouth, pocketing Los Blancos around €10m.

That is beside the point, though; what matters is that the Diavolo have now gotten themselves a new defender who Amorim asked for. ‘Here we go’, certainly, as the journalist has stated.

  1. Great signing now question is do we get another allowing gila to play on the right or do we run pav gila tomori or maybe pav gabbia gila

    1. I have a feeling we’re not done at CB. I think Tomori will get sold and Gabbia isn’t fast enough for the Amorim system. I think they’re still looking to bring in one of those Portuguese CBs we’ve been linked with, Goncalo Inacio or Antonio Silva, and if that happens I think our starting backline is going to be Pavlovic-Inacio/Silva-Gila, with Gabbia and De Winter on the bench.

        1. Tiago Gabriel reportedly close to returning to Portugal. Benfica to sign him (which might make it easier for us to nab Antonio Silva)

      1. Amorim plays with a back three, and there is 6 CBs in the squad. So there needs to be outgoings to make another player in. The team is stuck with Gimenz given his injury. So outgoings need to set up real fast.

        1. Rolls Royce that often broken and need repair? No thanks dude, i will gladlly leave that problem to atalanta, he is the next caldara in term of injury prone

  2. Regardless of how Amorim is gonna do with us( I was and still am skeptical) at least he’s signing valuable players and making this management spend real money to bring quality to this group. We desperately need someone in the midfield and we’ll be legit this season and the ones to come ! Forza Milan ❤️

    1. 💯 agreed, I dont rate Amorim after his struggles at United but he seems to be in Gerrys good books, and the club is facilitating his 1st choice targets even if it means slightly overpaying, to get the deal done.

      Which, seem to be v good players. A couple more signings (and clear out the dead wood) and there will be absolutely zero excuses not to make top 4 and challenge for the scudetto next season

  3. Now for a true quality DM, and we’ve reinforced the spine with players that count. Round that out with another AM (to add to Nkunku and Pulisic), plus a good alternate for Bartsesaghi and we’re cooking.

    1. We have a lot of DM. Rabiott Modric Ricci & Jashari … we have to sell Fofana and Luftus. AM is more pioriity at the moment as i dont think Nkunku is good enough.

  4. Maignan- GABRIEL, GILA, Pavlovic- Saelemaekers, ???, Rabiot, RAUM- ALAJBEGOVIC, Pulisic- RAMOS;

    Torriani- De Winter, Gabbia, Odogu- Athekame, Fofana/Modric, Ardon, Bartesaghi- ???, Nkunku- ???;

    Terracciano, A NEW DMC,
    Comotto, Cisse, Camarda;

  5. Maignan- GABRIEL, GILA, Pavlovic- Saelemaekers,
    ???, Rabiot, RAUM- ALAJBEGOVIC, Pulisic- RAMOS;

    Torriani- De Winter, Gabbia, Odogu- Athekame, Fofana/Modric, Ardon, Bartesaghi- ???, Nkunku-
    ???;

    Terracciano, A NEW DMC,
    Comotto, Cisse, Camarda;

  6. I think they’re going to keep the current guys we have to fulfill the role, one box-to-box and one Regista for the center of the park, we have 3(Modric, Jashari, Comotto) of the latter and 3 of the former(Rabiot, Ricci, Fofana), with Bondo, Musah, RLC, and Bennacer’s futures still up in the air.

      1. It’s completely possible, but I’d like to see a true DM brought into this midfield. We’ve been suffering defensively since Kessie left because of it. The player to be moved to make space is Fofana. So our midfield group next season is: Rabiot, New DM, Ricci, Jashari and Modric. If Modric retires, then there is space for Comotto. If not, Comotto goes on loan to a Serie A club. I’m not sure if Zeroli is quite up to Milan’s first team yet, but if he is included, I think he will find more space as one of the AMs actually, and since we’re going to be using two of them, I think he could be the fourth AM, after Pulisic, Nkunku and someone like Alajbegovic or Zaniolo. Otherwise, another season on loan to a Serie A club could serve him well.

        1. The advantage of having Zeroli is that he can play everywhere down the spine of the squad. So that might give him the advantage over the other youngsters when it comes to staying, he’s very versatile, Kessie looked great at the world cup, wish we could actually get old work boots back in the squad.

  7. I don’t want to be over optimistic but 2 weeks ago we didn’t even have a manager and we thought that we are doomed for poor mercato.
    Now we have a coach, who is involved in the transfers and we are bringing wanted players very fast, without bargaining for every penny.
    It’s refreshing, let’s hope that it will bring good things in the future

  8. Glad to see quality coming thru the door.

    Maybe Gerry finally understands you have to give the coach players he wants if you expect to be successful.

  9. Also not the worst thing to see Puli and Ramos go out of the WC yesterday. And Leao?

    Obviously they will get a break but the sooner they are at Milanello working with the group the better.

  10. Might be going against the tide here, but I didn’t see anything particularly exceptional or outstanding when we played against him last season..but maybe that was a one-off. Not sure what others see in him but I’ll go with the crowd on this one and hope he’s as good as you guys are saying. Welcome Gila!

    1. He was playing against Allegri’s Milan. He didn’t need to look exceptional or outstanding. But, Milan lost 2 of the 3 games vs Lazio, barely created any chances and scored 1 goal in 300 minutes.

  11. This is a player that if he stays fit can upgrade the all defence alone. He is a leader, good with the ball, strong and fast in duels. A top top center back.

  12. Maignan-Pavlovic-O.DIOMANDE-GILA-Barteseghi-GIVAIRO READ-Rabiot-Modric-Nkunku-Pulisic-Ramos

  13. He was an absolute “rock” last year when Milan played Lazio putting out fires left and right. Good game IQ and not bad with his feet. Strong signing and I expect him to improve our back line from day one of the campaign.

  14. This mercato so far feels palpably different to the last 5 years or so. I don’t know if it will change the sporting fate of Milan ultimately but I’m curious to see how the rest of it plays out.

    So far the acquisitions have been precise to the areas of needs.

  15. another CB, LWB, and 2 CAMs

    Inacio, Zalewski, Brahim Diaz and that greek kid sounds like a solid quartet. Leao can finance CAMs, 80-90M from Tomori, RLC, Estupinan, Musah, Chukwueze, Bondo.

  16. So actually Gila move to milan from lazio only 15m. The winning in this business still madrid who pocketed from milan totally 25m from 2 players.. 👏👏🍻🍻🍞🎩🎩

    1. Yes, we really need to replicate Madrid on how they can strategize the deal on their talents. We lost too many talents for too cheap.

      1. I think we had a lot of similar deals just that the players didn’t turn out to be bargain deals unlike the that of Madrid

  17. Im so confused why we’re paying above the market for players this summer? Ramos for 75m was insane when PSG bought him for 65m 2 years ago, hasn’t improved greatly and has a market value of circa 30m.
    Now there’s Gila, market value circa 30m, 1 year left on his contract and paying 35m for him.
