GdS: Milan ready for ‘phase two’ of Allegri project – what the coach has asked for

AC Milan fully intend to continue to build with Massimiliano Allegri, and there could be a new ‘phase’ to his second spell at the club.

Milan are on course to rebound well after the nightmare of 2024-25, as they are on course for a top four finish at present. La Gazzetta dello Sport have published a piece titled: ‘Milan, Phase 2 of the Allegri project is ready: what will change with the Champions League?’

What Allegri wants

Allegri will get a pay rise from €5m to €6m net if he secures a Champions League finish, and then he expects a transfer window that will expand the squad, given that there will be midweek European games to deal with that weren’t there this season.

In addition to that, the coach wants players that have the characteristics he outlines as being the best it for his style and system. The mission is to get the second star, and achieving it might be easier if the coach gets a No.9 who guarantees goals and is bigger in size, as he has wanted all along.

Moreover, Allegri believes Milan need experienced players, accustomed to the big stage and winning, like Modric and Rabiot. The progress since 2024-25 is already evident, but further steps forward will be needed to compete with the big teams in the Champions League.

Yes there’s a need to develop young players (like Alphadjo Cissé or André from Corinthians, if he arrives), but they need to be supported by key reinforcements. The club must do a bit more to please Allegri, who is already showing what he can do.

  1. There is no project under Allegri.
    No future
    No progress
Just a slow match to the day he is fired and everyone is glad it’s over.

I hope either Allegri goes or we don’t get CL qualification. His “style” will see us destroyed and embarrassed in Europe and what’s more it will amplify those calls across the world of “catenaccio”

    1. So, just so we’re clear, you’d rather us not qualify for the CL because we *might* get “destroyed and embarrassed”? I’d rather get destroyed an embarrassed every season in the CL, rather than not be in, because at least in the first scenario we’d have the capital to be able to stop getting “destroyed and embarrassed” if we choose. The other way we’re back to square one, digging ourselves into a hole that gets harder to climb out of once you start falling behind, and it’s banter era all over again, which is MUCH more embarrassing for a club like AC Milan. Clearly, Allegri doesn’t need to fail to qualify for the CL to eventually get fired if the club isn’t performing at a certain level. Just ask Pioli, who got fired after finishing second. No real AC Milan fan would want the club to not qualify for the CL because they don’t like the coach.

      1. I’d rather see our team building towards the future, keeping our best players, incorporating youth, playing the kind of football that made us the best.

I don’t think playing in Europe with this style is practical, we will lose and we will do so tarnishing the image of Milan and Italian football. That will not help us grow.

Play the group, get eliminated, waste of time and no fun for fans

    2. Wasnt that embarrassing when he took juve to the final of the CL twice, Allegri is why this team is actually competitive, or mabye the club should bring back concecqo, more stylish play just to come in 10th!

      1. I’m Allegri’s biggest hater but even I’ll admit I think he did a pretty good job at his FIRST stint with Juve, besides botching that final against Real Madrid, but that stint was 10 years ago, he’s changed.

His second spell was the Allegri we see today, it was awful. His last CL campaign they lost 5 out of 6 games (including agaisnt Maccabi Haifa). The season before that they got lost 3-0 at home to Villareal to be eliminated. He’s behind the times in Europe, partly because he’s never managed abroad.

      2. He underachieved .

That was a great Juventus team.

I remember them playing Bayern, he defended until they went 2 goals down.
Then they attacked and drew 2-2.
Second leg they had to attack and scored 2. Then defended again and conceded 2.
Eventually getting beaten in extra time.

They were well capable of winning and scored/dominated when they played football but then as usual played defense and conceded.
It’s just a unsuccessful way to go

        1. The same thing happened against a far inferior Man Utd team. They were 1-0 up and dominating, then he took a forward or midfielder off for Barzagli, going ultra defensive, they lose 2-1.

    3. It’s simple.

      Find another hobby.

When I felt I could no longer support the club last season, I quit.

My motivation for quitting was loyalty to those people the club had forced out with Calabria being the last straw.

Your motivation will be “style of play”.

      1. LoL.
        That’s rich coming from you.
I’ve been a supporter for 35 years and never quit.
But I also want to see us build towards competing in Europe not just taking part.
This current management and coach will be delighted with top 4 and CL crash and burn.

Why anyone is defending Allegri football is beyond me.
There is no reason a team can’t defend and attack. It’s basic stuff really

        1. I don’t understand your obsession in expecting your team to fail just so you can shout I told you so. This same team finished 8 last season leaking goals in almost all matches while also playing chaotic football without pattern. He saw the first weakness and he fixed it. we can clearly see the improvement in defence this time, there is a pattern (even if you don’t like it), the players have improved psychologically and Milan occupies second place, the team is totally with him, that is a clear achievement in his first season. Who says he won’t improve after solidifying the defense?
Please tell us the coach that is currently available within Serie A budget that should be hired.

    4. There’s clearly a project. There’s a big improvement over recent years. The defence and midfield are among the best in the league. The football is fine, the third best attack in the league without a centre forward is a miracle. You also don’t know what catennacio is. We’ve been out played maybe 3 times all season. We’re the team edging possession and big chances. Your eyesight isn’t the problem here, it’s you embarrassing ability to process information. Your hero Conte embarrasses himself in Europe, Allegri has made two finals.

    5. 🤣🤣🤣 SFJ, when did Milan play beautiful football? Was it under Sacchi? Cappelo? Zacheroni? Ancelotti? Allegri first time? Pioli? Or all the other 10 coaches that were there for a shorter time?

      Wtf are you talking about???

      1. Sachi, capella, ancelotti yes
Piolli had us playing great for a period also

No allegri first time was horrible.

  2. The team is missing a next level striker.

    That is it.

    Instead:

At LWB presumably they’ll sell Estupiñán creating a problem there just as Bartesaghi is trying to get established. So they’ll be looking for a back up LWB…..maybe if they can find someone with experience. Someone like Gosens.

They’ll definitely fiddle with the defence just as the three are getting settled.

And they’ll definitely work the midfield just as Jashari and Ricci are getting settled into their roles replacing Rabiot and Modric.

    I hope I’m wrong.

I hope the club get it right.

A next level striker and that is it.

    1. They need depth, not just a striker. They’re not stupid. The mercato was an overall success. The squad is in good shape.

      1. You are on point, just a few more addition to have a healthy squad for more competitions is what we need. A striker of Ibrahimovic or Guroud calibre, a central defender, and probably replace Estupinan with a more reliable backup for Bartashagi.
