Messaggero: Milan could use Rebic to lower €40m demands for attacking target

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are continuing with their attempts to sign Nicolo Zaniolo and they may have a player that could be used as a counterpart, a report claims.

According to what is being reported by Il Messaggero (via SempreMilan.it), the negotiation to bring Zaniolo to Milan could be unlocked thanks to the possible inclusion of Ante Rebic as a counterpart, because he is a profile that Jose Mourinho likes.

Zaniolo is valued by the Giallorossi at no less than €40m, a figure that Milan are willing to reach but only with the inclusion of some players going the other way. An offer of €25m plus Alexis Saelemaekers did not convince Roma, but Rebic could change their mind.

The Croatian is also attracting the interest of Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga, and his versatility – given his ability to play as a right winger and a left winger, as well as a false nine – is what appeals to Mourinho. Now, it is up to the managements to continue negotiating.

  1. It’s like Milan is possessed! How can we exchange Rebic for Zaniolo?!! On top of that, we have to pay extra to get him…. Except he has overcome his injury woes, De ketaleare is way better then Zaniolo and not injury prone like him

    1. I don’t think Milan are possessed, I think SempreMilan and the other news outlets are desperate for stories for ad revenue and keep making up details of a story that isn’t real because it makes clicks. It would be insane of Milan to part with a useful player and a huge wedge of cash for Zaniolo, I can’t imagine there’s anything real in it.

  2. Agreed CDK would be a good signing, but for CAM. Not sure it’s a good idea paying a lot of money for a player only to play him out of position. I’m of the opinion we are signing Zaniolo for RWF.

Now, personally I’d prefer Berardi, his numbers are better, he’s cheaper and less injury prone. Sure he’s not gonna get any better at 28yr but he’ll be a good outlet at RW for the next 2-3years.

However, Maldini+Massara have generally speaking done a good job on signings, so I’ll have to defer to their superior knowhow. Hopefully Zaniolo is another one of their master strokes rather than a injury nightmare.

    1. Berardi can’t go past a single player, that is why he hasn’t gone anywhere. Zaniolo on the other hand, can go past 2-3 players, he is amazing with ball at his feet. If you watched any matches of him you can understand he is closer to Leao than to Berardi in ability and style of play. We really do not need another Suso or Castillejo, we need someone who can create chances and space on their own so I think that is the reason Zaniolo is 1st choice.

      1. If he scores 15 goals each season and assists another 15 I don’t see any issues with “he can’t go past a single player”. Apparantly he doesn’t need to.

        1. And who good does it do if Zaniolo can go past 2-3 players but fails to produce THE endproduct (ie. goals & assists)? Nothing. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

          1. LOL, we will see who they buy. But you keep commenting with stupid remarks. Of course dribbling past a few players and passing the ball on to someone who makes the assist means something. Your knowledge of football is sad if you only count goals and assists. Thankfully Maldini, Masara and Moncada know their business.

  3. Well if they offer him Mourinho will take him 100%, Rebić is the type of player he loves. I hope he will stay, but I’d also love to see Zaniolo on RW.

  4. Milan must stop fooling. Where on earth would you sacrifice Rebic for Zaniolo. They should forget about Zaniolo, Belotti, Berardi and focus on Noa Lang and his team mate, Origi, Botman, Renato Sanchez.

      1. World class talent, reminds of Leao. You literally have no idea about football, thanks for proving. 😂😂😂😂 Leao wasn’t any better before this season, if you can’t see that lol

  5. If it was up to me i would not even think of such deal people seem to have short memory when comparing the two players Rebic between the season of 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 was our best attacking player in the meantime Zaniolo was injured for one total of 469 days is this the guys some fans want in our team wen are better players out there for the same money or lesse!

  6. Maldini and Massaras had done some good signings, but they have made a string of bad signings: Bakayoko, Ballo Tourè, Messias, Diaz – all failures. And the primavera has only become marginally better the last year. Moncada has been declared a genious, but obviously he is not an expert in getting talents for our Primavera team. So I am not at all calm when these rumours surface. I only hope they make enough good decisions that we can at least make a small step forward in quality next year.

    1. Messias and Diaz is not a failure – they gave some goals and assist that directly gave us points. Messias was never signed as starting eleven where Diaz was one of our best player before his injury. Bakayoko signed as a loan player, he was good for us in Gattuso era – sadly he isn’t fit for Pioli. And Balo Toure… Well he is really an unknown player and they just need someone cheap, but with some potential to cover LB. That’s what you got when buy young player – they won’t always worked out.

As for Primavera team – you do realize that our current crop was the batch from our banter period right?

    2. None were permanent signings. They got them on loan with option to buy, maybe because they wanted to see if the player is good enough? Never crossed your mind?

  7. Don’t even think about it! Your gonna regret it if it’s done… Rebic is way More useful than zaniolo, if zaniolo could come without sacrificing rebic it could be ok but rebic is not an exchanging player, he is a good asset

  8. If Rebic stays, which I hope, would not be surprised if he is tried out at the 10 by Pioli, it is hard and risky to try players out at somewhat new positions/roles during the season especially in a Scudetto race…. what we lacked at the 10 or even at RW was strength/size, Rebic is good with both feet, and strong with back to goal….we won the Scudetto,no need to make wholesale changes, just bolster up the squad, Rebic after he got somewhat back in form was held back and in reserve as Ibra was hurting and Giroud our only other option, Do not mess with Rebic off the pitch…….or on it.

  10. Tbh I dont really see the love for Rebic? He is a good player, but nothing more. Saelemakers I would hesitate to let go on the other hand, as I think his work ethics will get him a long way in this game. Unpolished diamond.

    1. if you are ready to keep Salad but not Rebic I think you are the deluded one. Rebic 1 season = Alexis 6 seasons. He’s a good closer nothing more. Definitely not a starter in any top club. He kills many counter attacks. Can’t keep a fkin shot on target. I am happy that he is gonna leave. Even after 3 seasons Rebic has scored 20+ overall while salad scored about 5.

      Unpolished Shit. Not diamond

  13. Zaniolo is everything but a Milan material! And this is talking without taking into an account his fragile knees.
The guy is a creative offensive midfielder, who attacks much more than anything else. But Pioli’s Milan is based on high pressing by each players (aside Ibra, but that’s far less noticable, given his amount of time on the pitch, plus the position he plays, unlike Zanilo, who;s position is key for pressing) and this fellow NEVER EVER DOES THAT! He simply doesn’t know how to press, and is a classic player who (wants to) stands out of the team, trying to prove his inidividual qualities.
So, signing him, and even more, spending so much money on him, is one of the biggest missteps Milan could make!
Better concentrate those efforts, money & energy for Nkunku. Give Rebic to them plus money & bring a player who can truly contribute on a regular basis.
